Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. We were up to 57.8, but in the last half hour we have taken a hit and dropped to 52.9. Clear skies.
Got about 2/3rds of the mowing done yesterday. Went 'downrange' and tried mowing some of the meadow/old pasture back. Still too muddy in some areas and standing water in other areas to get everything done that I wanted to get done. Was able to get some area around the pond as well as 3/4 of the path out to lone pine and the river mowed. Got it cut back quite a bit along the bottom of the hill in front of the house but still a couple of sprinkler heads in area too muddy to get too and one still under water. Last year it was pretty well dried out down there and I was piling cut grass in a couple of holes down there.
Battle of the Sage Rats and other underground critters continues. I've shot a few, but the others remain elusive. They must be coming up at night, which is strange. The hole seem to just magically appear. Saw one above ground yesterday, but he dove for cover before I could even get out of the house. I got one in the cross hairs, but he went down before I could pull the trigger. Ran water down those two holes until it was backing up out of the holes. The one took about a 1/2 hour of water and the other took over an hour to fill up. The critter must have dug the Carlsbad Caverns under that hole. Good thing we have a deep well with lots of water. They probably dammed off the tunnels like gray diggers and gophers do, so they'll be waiving at me in the next day or two. Bill Murray and Caddy Shack in real life.

We've been thinking about it for a couple of years. I just didn't want to spend the money that Harbor Freight and Honda want for their units that are only 2000 watts. The 3500W units they have seem even more ridiculous on price. Costco seems to have quit carrying the smaller Firman and on Costco's Web site they want over $800 for it.
This Cabela's is made by Champion. Costco had the same unit, but Champion branded yellow case in the stores last month for $600 and change. Must have been a one time special as I've checked on line and in 3 different Costco's and they don't have them now. This one easily fits in the trunk of the car and is whisper quiet, or so they say. I'll fire it up today and verify that. The Onan in the camper is too loud as is the frame mount we have, although the frame mount is quieter than th Onan 2500, even with the resonator I have for the Onan.
Cabela's had a deal going for club members at $100 off plus 10% off for Military/First Responder discounts so I picked it up. Floor displays were gone and they only had two left in the back and I got one of those.
We have a Cabela's branded (Champion) frame mount with the same wattage, 4000 watts peak. Too big to be easily portable. We got it a lot of years ago when we had our old Lance Camper that didn't have a generator. Had to take the wheels off of it and then it would fit carefully with no room for error, through the camper door. And it is heavy. It was and is a good unit. It works great and the only maintenance on it has been PM's such as oil change and spark plugs. Still has the OEM battery for remote starting although that needs replaced. If you charge it up and then run the generator for an hour or so a couple of days a week, then it keeps enough charge to electric or remote start. It ran almost continuously for two weeks a couple of years ago out on the old farm while PGE took their sweet time getting the power lines put back in out there.
Jim we have a 5000watt generator already but it's loud. I was thinking of a small generator with a true sin wave for electronics.
Primary reasons we got this was portability and greatly reduced noise. Generally if we can get good sun on the solar panels for a good part of the day, we don’t need anymore electricity.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 29, frost on the grass, clear skies and the sun is up over the trees now.
Heading out for an OASR Board meeting in Springfield in a few minutes. Going to be a long day.
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Made it back from Springfield Cabela’s where we had the OASR Directors meeting.
Watching the repeat of the US Army 250th Anniversary Parade.
