August 2023 Missouri Chapter Chat/BS thread.
i woke up at 4am this morning, went outside & watched a spectacular lightning show well to the south of KC. I got my yard mowed just before Rich called, grass was still wet but it was past due with rain in the forecast.
Truck stuff...here's a nice rear end.
I recently stepped back to finish up my 10 year rear bumper project lol!...too many projects... & life's ruts. I'm not sure about the CAT yellow shackles, maybe just black or keep them in the toolbox. Yep, old truck is past due for a fresh inspection & tag renewal, haven't really drove it since last October. I also chopped off the rotten tail pipe about 6" past muffler, exhaust was new in 2007.
My big red F600 truck, I got just about everything but a new short block, engine supports, new power steering lines & a couple wiring repairs for my firewall forward restoration project & I use "restoration" very loosely. Also still need to rebuild the the front driver's side cab mount structure/floorpan too. I could've had the new short block built this year but I decided to spend that $ on 2 new rifles & been enjoying shooting my firearms. I bought a Daniel Defense ar10 in .308 & a savage .17 hmr. I really really like my ar10, been shooting it between 50-300 yards with just iron sites so far.
That's enough from me for now, hope everyone is well & has everything they need/want!
CB. I've had decent luck with just getting the replacement fuel pumps from O'Reily's. In fact, there's one on EQ feeding 500 (ish) horsepower.
I need to get in the shop today and make up for lost time. Yesterday, my oldest daughter sprung a road trip on me. She wanted to go up to KC and get the rest of her stuff that she left up there when she got away from an abusive boyfriend. I didn't see him at all, which is probably for the best, but I had plenty of bail money just in case. Anyway, she is officially completely away from him now and living with us again until she gets back on her feet.
rich i hope you survived the snake skin incident and can get the truck aired out.. i know how you love the serpent surprises.....

hi again chris...
the rest of ya'll enjoy the mid august weather.... and behave yourselves
RC you can send any of that rain you don’t want to the Texas/Dent county line. I need these hay fields to come back strong!
Alan thanks for the info on the pumps. Takes my “what should I buy anxiety” down a whole bunch! You know how reading on forums can do to a guy but I was afraid the sky was falling 🤣 This one is kinda buried under the AC compressor so I don’t think doing it in 15 minutes in a parking lot is quite as feasible as it was with the old Generic Motors trucks.
Reassembled a basket case sprayer pump that runs off a Honda engine for my neighbor. It goes back into service for his business on Monday so hoping for the best there. I ran out of parts so it must be all good right?? It’s always fun putting together something I didn’t take apart, kinda like a puzzle.
Just been perusing the place. Looks like the recent rains have made the grass happy. Even my new grass seed seems to be popping up except where the rain washed it away.

I managed to test fit all the parts for the 56's flip hood. Now for disassembly for cleaning and painting the parts. The hood itself needs some bodywork. Anyone know where you can get a small amount of Panel bond? All I can find is caulking gun sized portions which is way to much. Not sure if any other product will work.
I'll be expecting ya some time tomorrow RC. Hope all goes well with the carb rebuild when ya get here. R U bringing any 60 parts?

Not much going on here other than work and trying to get stuff done at home. Got sidelined Wednesday so I could make sure I didn't pick up the 'Rona from a site visit the previous week. Folks that I was in close contact a few days prior were dropping like flies with it. In an odd twist of fate, it was my former position and I would have likely been in the thick of it because I carpooled with the one who gave it to everyone else.
I've got a list of to-do's a mile long and what am I doing? Waiting at the hospital ER for my sister to get a sore on her leg that got infected to be doctored up. Things like this are the reason I never get anything done.
I don't mean to be crabby, but my list is getting longer than I can possibly keep up with.
Been in Colorado nearly a week, mostly in Fort Collins. Went for the weekend to Deadville, CO to watch and crew for a niece who did a mountain bike race there yesterday. 100 miles/11 hours. I miss it but its too much for me now. Back in Ft Collins, start back to the lou tomorrow. Was gonna look at some gas pumps a guy has in Pleasant Hill on the way home, but the guy has ghosted me. Just as well, want to get home. Good to visit relatives...for a while! I'm sure there will be lots of grass to cut, or bale, when I get back!
It's rained most of the day here but the rain gauge isn't even showing 3/4". Kinda put the brakes on anything outside.
I did manage to smoke some ribs for dinner but after the last fiasco with my smoker when RC was here I was worried the rain might affect them. But all is well and we had my wife's recipe hot (Temperature) potato salad, baked beans and ribs.
I took some of dem gulf shrimp out for tomorrow when RC gets here. We'll have a little shrimp boil after he rebuilds my SIL's Rochester Carb for his boat. Then Tuesday I'll run him down town for his new adventure.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I managed to get home in time to run and get a haircut before they closed and then set about to change the oil in the Escape before it started raining. I almost made it, but it opened up and poured just as I was buttoning up the splash panel underneath. The ground was already soft under the ramps, so I slogged though finishing up and got thoroughly drenched in the process. I guess that's karma for getting crabby this morning.

.. fell asleep about 2100 at 2330 the sound of trees snapping and things banging on the roof was so loud i got up.. no leaks that i could find but somehow there was wind coming in from the spare (storage)room.. after a REALLY quick jog around the house, i seen a half of sheet of siding on the south-east corner is missing.. ekkkk.. but it's ok because the wind and rain are coming out of the northwest now...
the power went out again last night ,,
.. its ok though because it flickered a little bit ago... that means it should be a quick fix this time. the creek is a raging torrent so my plan on heading to st. louie this morning is looking iffy to say the least....
.. BJ i will call ya when i know something for sure.. because i am thinking i may have to reschedule my poisoning appointment.... dont know if that makes me happy
or sad
This is gonna be a ridiculously busy week. I have this jack to finish up, two bumpers to build then get everything out that belongs to a kid that's been buying parts off of me so he can take it all home. He wants to build an old school truck like EQ, so he bought two 66" tires, a cab, a bed, a couple steer cylinders and some other miscellaneous stuff. I want to get his stuff gone, the parts truck in the barn with the project truck and the rest of the yard cleared out. I'm sick of looking at all the clutter around here and even more sick of mowing around it.
RC do what ya gotta do. Stay safe brother.
You SW Missouri guys storm kinda fades out by the time it makes it up here. It's back drizzling here. It's supposed to clear up this afternoon.
I'm still working on the replacement hood and flip kit for the 56. Bought some "Skyco" from ACE hardware. It's supposed to kill surface rust. Problem is it stinks to use and it's been too wet to drag the hood outside. Did I mention it's in my basement? But I guess you could say I'm still moving forward. Even if it is in baby steps.

Checked fluids, looked everything over (buddy drove it to where he parked it), tossed a batt in, no problems arose there. Key did nothing so far. Crossed poles on solenoid wasn't doing it either. Cleaned some cable ends & got it to bump over just enough to know it's not stuck.
Pulled starter, wasn't jumping so planned to go to get some parts.
Went to my brothers yesterday to grab another starter & "borrow" a solenoid off his parts rig, nope- already gone... grab older style off my 79 parts rig to see if it'll work. His batt & cables wouldn't jump either of the 2 starters I pulled off. Great, these can't all be bad... Got home, got my cables out & known good & charged batt, wouldn't ya know it? All 3 are good, guess I'll pick up a couple new cables & try again in a couple days.
Glad to see and hear from everyone.
