Morning all.

Left Scottsdale at 1100 PST (1200 in AZ) on Monday and pulled into the driveway at home at 0840 Tuesday. 21hrs and 40mins. Came home through Bakersfield this time and I believe this was our fastest trip yet. Wife was not feeling well so I drove the entire way, basically non-stop. Unpacked, put on a movie or 3 and took a few naps. I was a little tired to say the least. Went to bed at 2030.

Now back to the proverbial pile of vacation poop to deal with.

Good afternoon. We had a very wet, warm morning here. Heavy rain and tornado warnings, but it seems to have passed. My parents are headed to Tallahassee airport to start their trip back home to Corvallis. It was a great week with them!

Did that a half dozen times between military life and then a law enforcement transfer to an area that didn't have the bank we were using. Always a wonderful experience. Our main checking account is still held by the Garden Valley Branch in Roseburg which we opened in 1982 when I transferred down there. Hasn't caused any problems, seems seamless, so we have left it there.
Not insurmountable, but it certainly can be interesting. Two years ago, we had to go through an Association Officer signature / access change over. No account number changes and no change of bank. Just a change of who had access to a CD, trusts, checking account and Safety Deposit box. What a cluster that was and took nearly 2 weeks to get it all completely done.

Good Thursday morning Andy and those to follow.
Currently 54° here.

The bank we were with closed their local branch, so when we needed to go inside it's an hour round trip. Luckily we didn't need teller assistance much but with the duplex it's needed from time to time. The nice part is the new bank pays more interest.

Good morning everyone.

We are still using Navy Federal Credit Union for our main banking and haven't had a local branch since 2011 when I was active duty. The only time we've had issues is when we need to get money for large cash purchases.

All banks seem to make getting chunks of cash difficult. Im guessing it has to do with fractional banking and paperwork on their end to the government. What do you think?

Are any of you guys embracing the digital currency? I figure if it can disappear when the electricity goes off its not really there. Unfortunately this fact is nearly true on standardized banking even now…

About a year or so ago I purchased some Crypto currency after seeing some friends of mine having some success investing in it. I just started small, bought $130 of about a half dozen different ones. Within a few months I had a whopping $20 worth left because it all crashed.

I also know someone who had around $50k in crypto built up and someone hacked their account and drained it, so I'm pretty skeptical.

Morning all. Still working on the pile of vacation poo. Took a field trip to a washed out road in a BFE part of the county. This will be interesting to repair and likely not quick.

Watch the netflex doc "the hunt for the crypto king" and see if that's for you. LOL I think I deal with "digital" money now as I rarely have any paper on me and almost everything I do is either online, electronic payment through an app, or with a card. There are a couple of places that I we patronize that is cash only and we either plan for it or eat the few bucks in atm fee's because we forget.

I learned a long time ago you can't just go and get a chunk of cash out of a bank. They actually don't have much cash on hand. You usually need to coordinate that in advance as the bank needs to order the actual paper money. While a cashiers check is frowned upon, that's usually the way things end up going and I've never had an issue.

Good afternoon Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Just back from the duck pond a bit ago. Went over the top of one of my hip boots by just enough to make it squishy. Must have gained a 1/4" depth in the past day.
Wet and rain showers, 54°. Most of the ducks seem to be in Eugene. Perhaps over at Basket Slough or William Finley visiting Rich.

When I got home from the duck pond a few ago I checked the home phone and We've had 10 spam calls so far this morning starting at 0602. We've always gotten a couple every weekday but around the 2nd week in Dec. we started getting a bunch of calls every morning, starting right at 0600-0605. Always have come in with a "unknown" number, most likely 'spoofed'. Starting the 2nd, the phone calls resumed. Now they are actually listing a persons name in addition to the number on caller ID. These are all coming into the home "land line" number so I've killed the ringer, set the answering machine to 0 rings and turned off the call forwarding to my cell number. If a 'real' person we want to talk to, or one of the businesses / Doctors' Offices we do business with calls and leaves a message, it will beep until we play the message. Yes, I could just do away with the home phone, but then we have to give out our cell numbers to whomever requires a phone number then we go through this on the cell phone. We only give out the home phone number, except to personal friends. All of our numbers are on the do not call list.
Done with the rant until the next one comes in. I want to reach through the phone and rip someone's adams apple out of their throat.

I had Navy FCU for quite a few years. In those days it was a "Savings & Loans" only. It was pretty much before debit cards and ATMs. When in ConUS it was generally NFCU for savings and B of A California for checking. In Hawaii we had to transfer everything to B of A Hawaii. If you didn't, cashing a check, or your paycheck, was very problematic. When we headed across the pond a checking account was set up at American Express (International). By the time the conveniences of the computerized, ease of access, and no charge ATM's started arriving we were already entrenched in the local options. When I transferred to Roseburg, we went "local" but a regional wide bank.
The local branch here in Sheridan has to have advanced notice if you want anything over $1000 from your accounts. You can get more with advanced notice or lacking that only if we drive into McMinnville to the "big" branch. They were going to close our local branch but I think a local threat of revolution avoided that. The did greatly reduce staff, closed one of the two drive thru windows and did away with our Safety Deposit boxes. We had to move our box into McMinnville, but we are in it so little that's not much of an issue or inconvenience.
The Warden and I both carry a little bit of a "petty" cash fund stuffed away for minor things / places that don't take plastic or purchases that are miniscule enough to not use plastic - like a cup of coffee at a pit stop or truck stop.
