I've actually seen a couple diesels with the 44TTB.... BUT I cannot say they came that way....

there are Coil Spring kits to replace the leaf springs too... these trucks are OLD and it's anyone's guess what folks do

According to Blue Oval the 44 was used on trucks up to 8500 all diesels I have seen are above that so TJC is probably 100% correct.

You learn something new everyday. Tomorrow I have to go out and see if mine is a 44 HD or 50. It's 8 bolt, but that doesn't tell me anything more. Thanks for the link Lonewolf. Rep added!

The part from blue oval is correct, the 8600lb got the Dana 44HD, it's beefed up from the regular 44. I have one in my 85, in 85 only the f350's came with the 50, and somewhere (maybe 85) it crossed over to where the 350 got the Dana 60 and the 250 got the Dana 50.

The 44hd is basically identical to the 50, other than smaller hubs/bearings and a skimpier passenger side axle shaft.

The 50 axle shaft is a direct swap I believe, as are the whole axle assemblies.

The coils would sure make the ride smoother, but I like leaf sprung axles for work trucks, and it actually rides pretty smooth compared to the Dana 60 axle which rides like a tank..

X2 on the coils. I seen some kits to upgrade to coils, but something like $2500. I'll stay with the leafs a save my money. Waiting on my shackle bushings to be delivered by the way.

just go to a off road shop and grab a set of warn, or milemarker hubs. you will be years ahead of the game, and cheaper price too.

color of the **** does not matter, it is the size of the locker. if it is flush with the hub, it is a D50. the D44 locker is slightly smaller than the hub.

You have the Dana 50, also on the tac, you can try removing it and cleaning it and making sure where the wires leave the sensor they're not frayed and touching. If they are you can put some silicone or hot glue around them to insulate them from eachother.

It's real common for the tac sensors to read like that when they get old and tired.

the Tach issue was all discussed in the first few Posts in this Thread..... go back and Re-Read

What I'm trying to tell you is that with E4OD transmission Tach signal is IMPORTANT... IF it is degraded then it WILL lead to Early Transmission Failure.
