ATOTO Android Head Unit Project...
Thinking of doing what shovelheadrob is doing. Those two rear ATOTO USB cables could be routed to the glovebox for access, or to a dual USB mount like this one:
I'd either replace a cig lighter or put this alongside it. The A6 Pro and S8 premium rear USB ports are just 2.0, but one has a fast charge capability.
With the F350 idling, I tapped the gear icon on the Yukon A6 and set up Bluetooth2 to pair with the BAFX OBDII dongle in the truck. Then downloaded and opened up FORScan LIte, and set up the PIDs. Interesting display compared to my phone. The home screen icons are always shown on the left side, and the gauges, graphs, tables or tests are shown on the right. When I use FSL on my phone, the home screen icons are replaced by the table, etc - probably due to the limited screen size.
This is the table view. I don't have the units correct yet, but you get the idea.
Note the buttons on the A6 Pro in this installation are pretty close to the lower dash bezel, and a bit tight for my fat fingers to push. It works, but I have to be deliberate.
The soft buttons just above are a bit crowded - not too tall. Just have to be careful to hit the button you want without hitting an adjacent icon.
The S8 premium may have an advantage here with right side hard buttons and a wider top soft key bar. It's just the S8 premium that has hard buttons arranged on the side though. The S8 Standard, Pro and Ultra are all set up with hard button arrangements on the bottom, like this A6 Pro. They do have the soft buttons up top though. These are little things - just something to consider.
I would like to put something like this where the "Power Point" plug on the dash is. You could swap out the USB charge "port" with something like the USB plug shown above and have an all in 1 plate for lots of things. Or replace the 12 volt plug with the USB extension so you keep the 2 USB charge plugs.
20% off on the ATOTO A6 Pro and the S8 Standard! My ATOTO A6 Pro will be here next week after a purchase price of 20% off. I am hoping for the OBDLink MX+ and OBD extender cable to go on sale, but will purchase on Cyber Monday if not.

1. Internal distance between external touch pad membrane surface and internal screen too far apart (distance distorts where one touches and what gets activated)
2. Volume control stepping (bass volume disassociated with volume of mid and high frequencies, only 3 steps between volume too low and volume too high)

Why I’m Returning the ATOTO A6 Pro Android Head Unit...
This appears to be model "Toyota/Subaru - ATOTO A6 Pro A6YTY721PR" with the soft buttons where I selected the "hard" buttons along the bottom as seen in the image below.
The image above is of model "ATOTO A6 Pro A6Y2721PRB". This was key for me as I didn't want to fumble around with soft buttons that may or may not be there when driving.
At timestamp 00:40 (40 seconds) into the video by CTUAN13, he states "one of them (problems) is solvable by buying the physical button version". At time stamp 2:25 he goes on to say that the "non-touch button model does not have that problem" as he is referring to the air gap between the screen and the protector. This is image number 1. in your post and is not a concern for the physical button version of the ATOTO A6 Pro.
In addition, we both know that people can and will bitch about anything. Some people will bitch about not receiving two million dollars when someone hands them one million for nothing in return.
In second addition, I scoured the internet including forums, videos and ad listings for details on these things. In post #24 you commented on my scorched Earth level of detail for something somewhat meaningless to most FTE'rs.
If you need more of reason than my empty clips, then please scroll back up to Post #1 of this thread, and review the details, the spreadsheet, the links provided, the narrative. This is a massive effort, beyond what one might receive from the research efforts of salaried staff. Visualize yourself producing content such as this. How much time would it take you to research the history of previous discussions on the topic, inventory the parameters of importance, survey the current market of offerings meeting the desired parameters, post links to each candidate, and make a freaking spreadsheet for crying outloud?
Please rep Sous accordingly. Or at least thank him.
Thank you, Sous!
Using Amazon reviews as a trusted source (sketchy at best) I deduced that this was a good purchase for my application.
Going even further than that, SkySkiJason (who I do trust 100%) has one of these units and likes it quite a lot. BWST (who I do trust 100%) also has one in his Yukon and plans to get an S8 for his truck. I also read a good portion of the 1000+ questions on Amazon taking notes along the way and researching my points of concern.
Lastly, the ATOTO A6 Pro (with hard buttons) was marked down to $199 which is a bargain if it gets me live Google Maps, FORScan and audio books/podcasts from the dashboard. This is NOT a good purchase for everyone, but it certainly will be for me and I am looking forward to it.
Is that considered 10 paragraphs?
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
There are wiring harness adapters, I bought one for my Jensen GPS head unit that I will be removing soon. Plug and play for the most part.
You are correct in that the reason for me posting is to have your back. I recalled reading here on this forum about seven years ago when everyone was jumping on the Joying bandwagon, and then after a year or so it got real quiet. Other than [utag=member.php?u=749715]coax9952[/utag] 's positive report above, others did not experience as much joy, per their reports 3 or 4 years later, having replaced their Joyings with something else.
It was with that memory in mind that I searched the ATOTO using keywords like "returned" "piece of crap" "junk" "sent it back" "never again" etc... the typical key words I use whenever considering any product unfamiliar to me. That video came up at the very top of DuckDuckGo, so it seemed like a reasonable heads up.
I am also keeping an eye on the Scosche FD1330B posted by BWST earlier. I have another double din bezel in the truck right now with the Jensen GPS unit, but the Scosche may provide a cleaner look. I will make that determination during installation. We have a Scosche Qi wireless charger mount in our Subaru and I am very happy with their product quality after driving cross country (GA to OR/ID) using it twice.
Y2KW57, your comments are always welcome, just like everyone else's here on the FTE. I feel I always have something to learn and I am eager to do so. Especially if it saves me time, effort or money.
