we brought my father home from the hospital so he could die at home. so the past 5 days have been spend making arrangements, wake, funeral, and arguing with bankers and insurance agents so mom would not have to.

not to worry.
we are celebrating his 90 years on earth, not morning his passing. he is finally out of pain, and went at home like we all wanted.
of course the doctors were not happy, because we took him out and they stopped making money for doing nothing.
he was home in his bed, and went in his sleep.

I am sorry about your father passing. Condolences to you and your family.

That's the way to do it, my dad wanted it that way. Have a party and talk about the good times we shared. Doctors ruined my Dad's last few days on earth because he wouldn't give up and it cost him his dignity and quality of life at the end. Very sorry for your loss.

Tom, I am so very sorry. And yet, I want to commend you on that outlook.

AdirondEx, is that you? Is this at your "camp?" You look familiar. I think I've seen you before on "Lifestyles of the Rich & famous!"
Damn nice backdrop. Mountain stream, sipping an adult beverage. I aspire to be like that one day.
not to worry.

Im a little younger than you guys and watching my grandpa die a few years ago was painful. His body was riddled with cancer and he suffered a couple strokes within a couple of days. My aunts and uncles fought tooth and nail to keep him alive and it ended up with him suffering through a weeks worth of excruciating pain. I no longer talk to that side of the family over the ordeal. I have specific orders from my parents to not let the same thing happen to them.
Funny story. My dad had a pretty bad heart attack about 9yrs ago. Him and I have a really good relationship and we joke around constantly. When he was out of the woods but still laying in his hospital bed, I would joking unplug cords out of the wall. The darn doctor walked in and caught me one time and immediately called for security. That was an interesting conversation with security and the medical staff. For clarification, none of the cords I unplugged had anything to do with what he was attached to.

All I had to do was sign on the dotted line (about 50X) whereas you probably could just write a check and skip the small stuff. The river is about as low as it gets, up to your waist out in the middle, spring and fall it's over your head. Crazies on kayaks trying to kill themselves think it's great. I like it for trout and smallmouth bass, if I feel like it.
funny story on that line.
dad's favorite line was "keep it short"
all during the funeral mass whenever someone started rambling, there would be a loud thunder clap and the church would shake.....and we would all chuckle.
my brother got up to give his ramblings and on his third word massive thunder and church shook. my brother looked up and said yea, i know, keep it short. that had everyone in the church laughing.
we knew this was coming. the past 5 months or so he has been going downhill. then he got a nasty infection that put him in the hospital for 5 day where his organs started failing.
he told hospital staff i want to live, but being a vegetable confined to bed hooked to a dozen machines is not living.
when his kidneys shut down we took him home against hospitals orders.
