I just found your thread and am going to read through it but want to say it's funny how the grille snowballed.
Yeah they kinda have a way of doing that... fix one thing and it makes something else look bad or mechanical issue rears it's ugly head and then "it would be really nice if the washer fluid worked turns into I really want a horn... "
So before you know it you end up redoing the whole vehicle .
Picked the truck up from the mechanic today and it runs sooo much better now. Wow what a difference in power! They did a great job putting everything back together with all the details I had spent so much time on as well.
So it's running great now and looking great again too...
Been dealing with a persistent leak on the transmission pan. The mechanic said they resealed it twice and a little while after picking it up from him it started leaking again. I tighten up the bolts a little more but it didn't help. In doing so I noticed the pan seemed to be a bit wavy around some of the bolts so I ordered a new pan and a Moroso gasket.
Everything showed up today and I installed it this evening.
Out with the old leaky one...
And in with the new shiny one (chrome adds more HP )
Transmission fluid topped off and so far so good. I left some cardboard under it and after a few hours it still looking good. I'll take it for a spin tomorrow and keep an eye on it.
Noticed the shifts were starting to be out of sync and delayed and I was still seeing some transmission fluid drips. So I jacked it back up and climbed under to see what I could find. As for the shifts I found the problem, the vacuum line was a little too long and was sitting on the exhaust. Melted the line and was leaking. So just to be sure I picked up a new vacuum modulator and new vacuum line. Installed both and also use a line loop to anchor it back away from the exhaust. Took it for a drive and it shifted soo much better right away. As for the leak I found the dip stick tube was weeping a little where it plugs into the transmission. So I drained a bit of the fluid using the new drain plug... such a great addition! Pulled the dip stick tube and found the new seal was crimped on one side. I installed a new seal and also added a good bead of Automatic Transmission Gasket Maker to the seals and around the outside of the tube "just incase". That needs 24 hours to set up so I'll top it off tomorrow and take it for a spin.
Topped off the transmission fluid and took it on a long drive. Came back and let it sit for the rest of the day with cardboard under it and it's looking real good so far. No oil from the engine and nothing from the transmission...
Finished the spray in bed liner this weekend and then detailed everything and went for a drive. Ended up at a the edge of the Columbia river with a great view...

Sad to see you letting go of the beast, the question is what the next project?
Yeah it can be a little bitter sweet but I didn't plan on keeping this truck so I never got too attached to it. Now that it's done I love how it turned out and can only hope some one else will like it enough to buy it.
I still have 6 more trucks to work on and enjoy so I'll be fine. I have a ton of stuff on my 67 flatbed project to do so that will probably be next in line.
Cleaned up the rear window channel and prepped for the window install...
One more item checked off the list... onto the next
Can you give me any tips about getting that rear window back in? Did you use a sealer? Did you install from the outside or inside?? My 'directions' rec'd with the seal seem to be wrong. Did you do it by yourself or with a helper. Any tips on getting the seal around the window itself?? That is the stage I am at and also have a tinted inside on mine.....

I had a retired glass guy come over and I helped him. He used a soapy solution on what looked like a cotton ball with a twisted wire handle (you can see it in the bed of the truck by the old window seal) around the cab and on the rubber seal. That made everything much easier. (but he only used a small amount so we did have slippery hands) I put the rubber seal on the night before and it was a bit of a challenge by myself but I just started in the center and taped it in place as I worked my way around. I found this video on YouTube and they basically did everything the same way we did. (They sprayed the seal with a little spray bottle instead of the cotton ball method)
