I think you are wrong. So we will have to agree to disagree for the most part. I cannot see anyone comparing a trained medical persons wearing a medical mask to the home made loose fitting mask that ARE being worn. I believe that this causes more of a health risk with folks thinking they are getting some protection. Yes this crap is bad and stay the hell and gone away from me. The mask thing is just BS the way it stands. And I am sure that the folks in charge know it. But many demand our officials protect us and for now they can't. So they do BS like this. Best thing to do is stay away for other folks. If you have to be close to folks have regular testing. Which Jimmy Johnson Nascar car champion has shown has problems. He was tested when his wife was sick and she tested negative but he tested false positive. This is just one example. The whole deal is a big mess. And if you think our basic freedoms are BS I will quote Benjamin Franklin "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." No government official can order the people they represent to buy anything. The law is very clear and protects us all and limits the power of government. This does not change. And it should not. You want to wear a mask and think it provides you with protection, fine. I am not telling you not to. Again just stay away from me. If me not wearing a mask helps folks stay away from me then great. That is why I do it and it IS my right. And there is nothing you can do or say that will change that.

I made a mask out of a plastic bag-- but it was hard to breathe :-) I have been wearing a N95 medical mask when I go to banks and what not. I use the store bought masks when I attend church (because I am isolated from people there by at least 6 feet.) I feel any mask will "help " with the spread if you are the one spreading-- but there is allot more to it then that-- kids wiping their nose on shoping carts-- and door handles and what not-- once school starts we are going to see an absolute explosion of cases. I mean who can't see a kid licking his hand chasing another kid yelling "Corona!" -- It is the new world we will have to live in--- hong kong has been wearing masks for about 10 years and it seemed to work well for them during this crises-- and they are packed in that country like sardines.

Jack, I see your point and agree to the extent that a mask doesn’t protect me. It helps protect the other person in case I’m infected.

I also greatly limit my involvement with the public. I’m glad at my age I don’t have to be out and about. You guys going to work every day in close proximity to other folks have my admiration. I just want all to stay safe. You guys are part of my circle of friends.

Del it would depend on what mask you wore and if you wore it properly. Think of your air filter on any of your vehicles. If it has openings at he bottom and top that is where air will be drawn from. Unfiltered dirty air. And if the material does not filter air no matter how much you seal it the dirt still gets through. But in this case we are not talking about dirt but something smaller. Think of a garden hose and what happens when you put your thumb over the end restricting flow. The stream of water shoots out much farther. But under this order you can wear a porous ill fitting mask and no telling when or how often it is disinfected (if it ever was in the first place). The reasoning for the mask that I have seen is it protects others if you sneeze or cough on them. You know what? I cannot remember the last time someone sneezed or coughed on me or I did on them. It just goes not happen. I cannot remember one time this year or last year. But even then a non filtering mask that someone sealed, the particles would would go out faster and farther.

Thing is this is nasty stuff and would be a death sentence for me if I caught it. So this is what I do. I don't wear a mask so people will stay away from me. I only breath through my nose and if I have to pass someone some where I hold my breath until I can get past. I stay as far away from folks as I can. If I have to talk to someone I turn my head to the side. Both talking and listening.

Folks the whole idea behind ole Ben's quote is the government cannot protect us from everything. We have to protect ourselves. Just look at the VA and government run health care in other countries for how well government can take car of our health. Folks please do not think when you are out there that masks worn by others are protecting you from anything other than looking at a part of them. If you have to be around folks get training on how to stay protected and I would recommend a non government source. A clear face shield makes more sense to me. Masks trap moisture and warmth and can be a breeding ground. So they need to be changed often. And the shield lets nothing through. I would have gone this route a long time ago if I wasn't worried about folks getting too close to me. If you have to wear a mask change it often and wash your hands. And behave like you are not wearing one and keep folks at a distance.

Hopefully the private sector will soon have treatments and a vaccine for this. Until then stay safe.

We do need to stay safe Jack. We and a few here are the vulnerable ones.

You and me wearing a mask doesn’t protect us as much as the other person wearing one. Also I don’t think it is as big a deal outside and at reasonable distance. In an enclosed environment like a store, cafe, car etc. I think is a big deal with other folks.

I have jockeyed cars for a couple of dealers but quit when this stuff hit because I did want to be in a car with 3 or 4 other folks who may or may not have been play it safe as far as their practices. I don’t think you and I are very far apart on this issue.

I have noticed that people wear them when they have to-- then take them off when no one is looking- or there to tell you otherwise.n Yesterday I just wished I would get it and be done with it.

just an observation on my part..
it seems that most Americans/ rest of the world believe the media is 90% bs.. except what they see negative about the current administration,
that of course is absolutely true.
on the flip side, pretty much anything they see or hear from the X-SPURTZ on the rona virus is gospel, even though , over and over
they say 'we really don't know' . i guess it's better to scared of things we can't see rather than take personal responsibility for our own safety .
probably the most googled search is how many people have died from flu in the past, appears we're not even close.
it's been reported a few times and i suppose proven [i have no idea one way or the other ] masks are not effective against viruses .
i have seen people wearing masks thin as tissue paper and over the top as bio-hazard masks and everything in between.

what are we to believe.. damn sure not the media... none of it.

So, if we can’t believe the media where do we get information? From politicians? We know they never lie from the President on down. Those running for office surely tell the truth all the time. All you have to do is watch 10 minutes of political ads to know that and at this point they are from the same parties going into the Kansas primary.

I’ll take my information from scientists and medical professionals way before those with other agendas. Is it perfect? No and most will acknowledge that, but it is better than from someone with a gut feeling or trying to bend reality to get elected.

I just don’t understand the resistance to wearing a mask when in close proximity to others when in public. Most evidence shows it greatly reduces the spread of covid. Is it 100%? No, but much better than a misplaced idea that wearing one infringes on my “liberty.”

just an observation here...
where did you get your information/news on the effectiveness of masks? do you believe what you're being told?
then do what you're being told. my observation has nothing to do with my 'opinion' , my opinion does not matter.
i will say that 99.99% of what i see/read seem to be agenda driven, again, OBSERVATION

In general, all things being equal this sounds good, and historically was the only rational outlook. Unfortunately "Science" has been hijacked by politicians and other ... unscrupulous individuals and organizations. We've seen this for decades now in "global warming". Rational thinking, in fact the entire basis for the Western tradition of using facts, logic, and reason is under unprecedented attack, most often by people whose job ostensibly is to defend it at our universities. Charlie is most definitely in the wire. Plan accordingly.
