Dentside is right there won’t be enough juice to charge future eCars. They are predicting 50% of all cars will be electric within 10 years. Futures prices for electric power could kill the EV car business long before we see saturation.
The wait for information is killing me! The order banks open up in just over 3 weeks. We gotta get some specs/color combos/package details soon! I figured for a while now that they would wait a few days until after the C8 corvette reveal which is the biggest news in the auto world so the super duty news wouldn't be lost in the noise.....now that that has happened I'm counting down the seconds lol. Hoping it is any day now.
Has there been much on the 10 speed? I was bored today and looking at the 2020 GM trucks and doing some calculating came up with some interesting stuff with their gearing and 10 speed.
They've dropped their rear ends to 3.42 across the board with the L5P. Doesn't matter if its SRW or DRW, you get 3.42
If they keep the same size dually tires as the 2019, which are 235/80r17, your RPMs at 65 are 1475.
Largest factory tire, 275/65r20, gets you 1390. A 35" gets you 1350.
Yet they're currently top on towing.
Now from what I've read Ford is keeping their gearing the same. I'm going off the Tremor package where they said 4.30 and 3.55 were still options for gas and diesel, so I'm assuming that stays the same across the board.
So if their 10 speed is geared similarly to the GM 10 speed, are they shooting for the moon? Or are they going to conservatively beat GM and Ram, and just claim due to gearing they not only tow more, but also tow it better?
This could also be completely wrong because I'm using an online calculator.
Good news is if the calculations are right, a 450 could run 40's and have the same RPMs as the GM 3500 haha

Seems GM is going to concede torque and is shooting for MPG bragging rights
a lot of discussion on the duramax forums right now about new 2020 getting over 20 mpg going 80 mph which is really good.
On a side note- looks like we will be seeing a bunch (maybe not compared to a super duty) of GMC AT4’s in a few months. Seems that’s the only trim level that everyone on their forums like and are pre-ordering. they say it’s the least ugly out of all the configurations. They are still complaining about the mirrors though

I watched the TFL 1000mi. drive with the 2020 Cheby 2500 hd. It averaged 20, pretty impressive I think. Still wouldn't buy the truck.

LOL I am not ordering a F450 for MPG bragging rights...maybe GM should offer a 3500 with a 4 cyl option and no towing specs...

GM said long ago that the 2020 power numbers would remain the same. I’m a Ford guy, but don’t underestimate the Dmax. It is a very impressive driving engine. It’s the truck itself that’s lacking in quality.

Agreed. I have had 2 Dmax and thought it was a great platform. I would say it’s the Lexus of Diesel engines. Isn’t the most powerful / Isn’t the quickest , but very smooth and capable engine.
I like the powerstroke for many other reasons and have no complaints
a few few things I think GM does better then Ford
1) front bumper sensors
2) MYLINK >sync
3) Bose >Sony /B&O
4) dvd / entertainment systems- I get with a moonroof you can’t so it but a headrest dvd option for back row.
Other then those minor minor preferences I think Overall Ford is the best all around heavy duty out there

GM seams to concede on paper but in reality always outperforms the Power Stroke when tested. Ike Gauntlet tests is one example that comes to mind. Also the new Duramax trucks have set the bar for towing capacity.

I just don’t understand why we can’t play videos on the dash screen wile in park.
I think the tow test are a good indication that all three manufactures have produced great tow vehicles. The difference in time up Ike Gauntlet shows all are very capable.. If hope folks aren't buying a Heavy Duty truck to race up a hill pulling 25k or more. If you are old enough to remember when these trucks made 500ish pounds of torque and everyone was thrilled and couldn't stop talking how great it was, this was around 2000 and 7.3 was king. The manufactures keep each other honest, that's good for all of us.

I'm certainly old enough which is why I'm more than satisfied with 430 lb. ft. of torque from my current 6.2 gasser pulling 9,000 lbs. I bought a new F250/7.5 gasser back in '88 and was pulling 14,000 lb. doubles with it. The 7.5 EFI back then had 390 lb.ft. of torque. The 7.3 diesel only had 345 lb. ft.
Unless Ford goes with really high gearing in their 10 speed I just don't see how they don't absolutely kick butt when it comes to pulling ability.
The GM 10 speed has a slight mechanical advantage over Fords 6r140 even with the 3.42 rear, but if Fords 10 speed is similarly geard to the GM but keeps the 3.55, 4.10, and 4.30 gearing then the Ford advantage is huge
