Weld some stake pockets on to the side, and run up a couple of supports. That would hold for sure.
unfortunately i cant weld anything atm ... im thinking of just getting a small chain and a couple eyelets to string across the top... if i coulda gotten the latches i woulda liked it wouldnt have been a problem... unfortunately the only ones i could find were massively huge... woulda been fine if i was making a truck bed but not for the little trailer...
Stall door latches could be used by reversing the action to allow the dog to go to the outside of the wall.
This would serve as both latch and bow control.
Instead of a steel dow, you could use a flat bar stock through the tailgate plate and secure with a hitch pin.
Another thought (I know, not sure where that came from) same plate with correct dia. hole and use hood pins. Mount a metal block on the sides and attach the pins to the blocks.
i liked the dowes... but wish i coulda gotten the ones i wanted in the size i wanted...
with this one i wouldnt have needed the side blocks because of the flat side plate... but it was massive in size.. not only did the barrel twist to hold it in place horizontally but coulda had a pin through the end to help retain it... i couldnt find any smaller ones to have worked for the trailer...
The one I poste in #109 would be a good choice. In the picture it is oriented as normally used. But it could be reversed and when latched the dog would cam on the outside of a block. Could put a thin metal plate to reduce ware on the wood.
Something I did ones and you eluded to something like, is a bar bent in a "U" the width of the outside. Dropped it in an eye on each side. Drilled the legs and to take a hairpin so it would not jump out
i really dont want to change the latches and drill new holes for them... especially since the screws already went clear through the wood... little chain/cable will work fine for now.. whenever the wood rots away i hope to have the welders up and running again to make a bed out of steel later... but figure ill get a few years outta the wood bed for now..
Been quiet around here the last few days. I had a business trip last week, so didn't get chance to get online much. But I'm back in Carolina now, sure did miss the humidity and the temperature. I don't know how other people can live in those really dry areas.
