replace the ipr with a new one, yours is twenty years old with tons of cycles through it, no idea how good the solenoid is either. simple swap too, suck the oil out of the hpop, unscrew the old, install the new, refill hpop.......and give it hell.

Thank you for the links that price is a lot better than what I found and why does the tin nut cause issues? Just a head scratcher lol

I know there is a lot going on, but try not to loose focus. You still haven’t solved the fuel pressure issue. The IPR may be just fine. Solve the fuel pressure and it may just Fire up. Sorry I am not familiar with Torque (yet!).
If the fuel bowl is half empty, full it up and try again. You have a new pump so it “should” be good. At worst you may have to drop a hose into a fuel can and see what it does. If it fires off that then the problem is narrowed down some.
Pull that chip when you can so you can help narrow down the potential sources of trouble
Keep at it. You will get it figured out.

Right im trying not to loose focus but just seems weird that it was wanting to fire until I tightend the ipr up just seems fishy so just re placing it helps and it looks pretty nasty anyhow so it won't hurt to do I still don't know if I'm getting fuel pressure or not but I also don' have another set of hands to crack the Schrader valve while I'm cranking but since I've got spark numerous times idk if it is a pressure issue I'm just freaking lost lol pulled a loan to get the truck and a week later all this. I just got to keep telling myself **** happens and keep pushing for the light at the end

The tin nut is known to come loose at times, its job it to secure the solenoid on the shaft of the ipr, when it loosens it allows the solenoid to float around on the shaft and gives the ipr incorrect signals.

So say with it being loose it could be sending some what of a signal to want to fire the truck and now that it' all the way tight it's faulty and won't allow it to fire

Matt, you need to solve or verify your fuel pressure issue first. Focus on that before you look elsewhere. Effective troubleshooting is about eliminating or testing one thing at a time.

Don't "crack" the schrader, put a gauge on it. You can get a fuel pressure test gauge kit at Harbor Freight for $20. You can test it with a tire pressure gauge for free. You need to eliminate that as a factor before you look elsewhere. That means you need to TEST it.

I know it can be frustrating and it can be easy to lose focus, but you really need to eliminate one thing at a time or you're just guessing.

Oh, and in regard to Torque Pro, it will work just fine with a '97, that's what I use on mine. It will read all sorts of live data, pull and reset trouble codes, data log live runs, etc. And I get that same error every single time I start it up (always have). I think it has something to do with the Ford PSD PID group using a separate PID grouping or something. At any rate, it will work as long as your BT dongle works with the truck.

Well I don't think I'm having a fuel pressure issue anymore I haven' had someone be able to crack the Schrader valve while I'm cranking but after cranking when I get out and crack it I don't get any air anymore and i get fuel that comes out. But upon tightening the ipr all the way up im not getting anything anymore just crank no smoke or anything now. I had my mom order it for me as a Christmas gift so no money spent on it for me lol so at east it will have it and maybe I'm just not familiar enough with the torque app I mean I'm definitely not this is a whole different ball game then gas vehicles

Test the pressure, Matt.

You're just guessing and people are going to get tired of trying to help you when you ignore their advice. A $2 tire gauge and 2 minutes of mom's time is all it will take.

Once you eliminate that as potential cause of the problem, we can effectively look at something else.

Or just keep guessing and tossing parts at it. Up to you...

Checking fuel pressure by yourself it quite easy. On the passenger side of the fender is the starter relay. Unplug the top connector and you will see a screw type terminal. See picture below with it unplugged. Jumper that screw terminal to the battery plus lug on passenger side battery and the truck will crank. Just make sure the transmission is in neutral or park, depending on transmission type and parking brake is ON, for safety reasons.

Good. Now that we know you have fuel pressure again, we can move on with two key questions.

1) Do you get a "Wait to Start" light when you turn the key on?

2) When you crank it, do you get any smoke out the tail pipe?
