I just installed a BakFlip VP on my truck this morning. Took about an hour.
Only tools that you need are a Phillips screwdriver and a 1/2" socket.
The installation instructions recommend that you push down on the side rails while clamping to compress the rubber seal. I had no one to help me so I used a rubber-jawed carpenter's clamp. That work really well.
Side clamps are a little fussy. They like to misalign while tightening.
You will need light! You tighten things from under the rails and it is dark down there.
I bet two people could put one of these on in about 45 minute.
There is some waviness in the side rubber from being folded. BakFlip says to heat with a hair dryer or sit out in the sun to help the rubber relax. A couple of hours in the TX sun should take care of that.
i would love to hear from someone with retrax how water tight is it compared to my experience.
I have the Retrax Pro MX, paid like $1625. I also bought the seal kit around the tailgate and took my time to get it right. Even made some weird cuts and shapes in around the bottom edges of the tailgate to make sure it was sealed properly. I haven't even seen a drop of water in the bed since I have had it on. The only place it could possible get a drop in the bed is where the seal goes over the center top of the tailgate on the uneven tailgate step area.
I know the Retrax is expensive and some people don't won't the drum hanging down in the bed, but the Retrax is the ultimate cover if those two things are ok. It is super fast at opening or closing at any spot you want. It is very heavy duty. It glides super easy with a pop-up handle, no spring loaded straps to deal with. Tailgate can be up or down to open or close the the cover. The tailgate will still pop open when you hit the tailgate release button even if the cover is closed. It locks with a key in any position. When fully open I can also still see my goose neck ball with the stoplight camera. No rattles of any kind. Lastly is the very easy install. Hope this helps anyone looking for a new cover.

I'll take a picture for you tomorrow. I have the Retrax Pro MX on my 8 foot bed it looks bad ***! Its definitely a 2-3 man job installing the 8 footer.
I'm totally in with the Retrax Pro MX. Probably the most expensive, probably the outright best roll-in canister cover on the market today. Best reviews I've read as well, only negative ever is usually the price!
I believe the price given of $1600 was for the 6.5' model, the 8' is more in the $1900 range.
I got the Ford accessories version of the Bakflip. I got it installed at the dealer for $1200 Cdn (a little over $900 USD) for the 6.75' version. Same as the one on my F-150 that served me well. If you want I can post a picture.

Please do! This is one of the models I am interested in!
where did you buy yours?
I had the G2 on my 14 F150. It held up quite well.
Went with the MX4 this time, because I was tired of always having to open the G2 to close the tailgate. Works well and looks good. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
I bought mine from the dealer with the $1,500 in free accessories promo Ford had on the SD in Canada. I like the cover and for the money I think it is great value.
+1 on the Retrax Pro Mx, best money spent ever on an accessory! Haven't installed the tailgate seals yet but WOW does it keep the water, snow and sand out on mountain passes. So darn easy to open too. You do kinda need 3 people or more to install, it is not that heavy, but heavy enough to be awkward. After seeing mine, my daughter wants one for her F150.
Siriusto where did those handles come from? I want them!
Also anyone with bakflip G2 how water tight are they? Mine is leaking right away just from slush on the road splashing up not even a rain. There was about three cups of water rolling around the bed when I opened it up.
