Well thank you! I'm not familiar with how a diode is constructed but I would guess the chip may have played a part in messing eith the diode with it potentially being loose and all.

+1; interesting finding. I could see it causing a no-start if it failed by opening the circuit completely. But failing by allowing current both ways, I wouldn't have expected a no-start. The PCM must have some self-protection built into it, where it doesn't power up if that diode is allowing current in both directions. A study of the EVTM diagram(s) might shed some light how this works.
