I drove the truck today. It ran great and hit the top speed the law would allow of 60 MPH with no problem. I have the RPM's set at 950 idle in park and 750 idle in drive. The problem I had (besides the slight transmission fluid leak) is a new oil leak. This was dripping on the exhaust causing a lot of smoke. I did fill the oil to slightly over max overfill on accident, but left it that way because I though it would go down since I just changed the oil and it hasn't been compressed in 6 months. I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not. How can I stop this?
Yea, I looked at it and it is definitely motor oil. All the bolts on the oil pan have oil so I think the oil pan gasket is bad, though it looks like there may be oil slightly above it, but they may be from driving and vibrations. The oil pan is also missing a bolt or two so they may be causing it as well.
IMO it's either a rear main seal or higher ... I don't think it's a pan gasket.
If you look in post#1 pic#3 & 4 between the starter and frame, you'll see oil above the pan line. To far and to much to be blown up there in that location.
It was dripping before that hole filled up though, but maybe it was leaking along the sides. It also looked pretty wet along that silver line, but that could have been from leaking previously.
I stuffed paper towels back there and it stopped dripping and the paper towel got wet with oil so that area is definitely where the leak is coming from.
