Submerged in fuel solves any priming issues and helps keep the pump cool.

The issues begin with rodent eaten harness and an engine that looks the hood has been left open for a decade. (Probably a bad hood seal)
The ECU isn't triggering the fuel pump relay, etc, etc...

Oh, yeah yeah yeah, this thing... I tend to agree that, if you're really dead-set on trying to make this thing ever work again, a mechanical pump & carb & non-computerized ignition would be the fastest way to go... yeah, just look on the side of the timing cover down by the oil filter and see if you can find a block-off plate covering up what used to be the mechanical fuel pump attaching area.

There is what looks like a block off plate where the fuel pump would go I just need to take it off to see whats behind it. Hopefully I can get a mirror as suggested to see if I can put one on here. I need to think of this as if it had nothing electronic and go from there instead of trying to work with whats there. So if I go mechanical I needed to get a regular sending unit for which ever fuel tank I am using and be good.

If your sender is good now you could just add a dip tube instead of the pump and use the same unit.

Carefully cut it off and clamp on a piece of fuel line.

Not sure if they work right now or now since I haven't put fuel in either one to see if they function but what you are saying is tank the pump out of the loop and put a piece of hose in its place?

Yep, just take the pump off and add a piece of hose to reach the bottom of the tank.
The four pin plug on your harness will not fit a two pin -sender only- tank bung.

Gary and i (& many others) are using a garage door weatherstrip screwed to the cowl.

Guess I need to put this on my web site as this is the second time in a couple of weeks I've had to search for it on FTE. But, here is a link to the hood seal: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12814641.

Ok guys different question, as of yet I have been unable to find a donor truck so as far as I can tell it will be easier to go with a small cap HEI distributor but my question is....what do I do with the existing wiring. What I have now has the 3 plugs on the drivers side fender well and yada yada you all know but the oil and temp sending units are tied into this as well as other stuff I may need. Can I just separate the harness wires and keep what I need and plugged in? I personally dislike aftermarket gauges unless they are installed uniquely and not just the 3 gauge set up under the dash but they will be more reliable especially with what I have to start with but would still like the cluster to function. I found a tach cluster in my junkyard travels that I would like to install as well.

You've got lots bigger things to worry about than tachometers and aftermarket gauges, don't lose your focus.

Yes, you can separate out the sending unit wires; if it were me, I would keep the old just in case I want to "go back to what it was" someday but, given what you're working with and on, I doubt you'll ever need to do that.

The EFI wiring should all be an add-on harness and separate from the vehicle's main wiring (although there will be places where things get munged together like you found with the sending units) but you should be able to figure out what you can get rid of and what you need to keep.
