Hey guys with toy haulers;
Just mount the camera on the door right in the middle about 2 or 3 feet above the hinge or about tailgate level. When the door is down it won't hit the ground and it's hard to back up with the door on the ground anyway. Clamp the cable to the door and right below it and run it under the trailer forward.
I might use pop rivets instead of screws.
I was hoping there might be a magnetic mount available. I'm working on something like that for a solar panel that will only be used when the trailer is parked.
Since you ordered the Tow Tech bundle, you can always order the camera and/or TPMS from a dealer after delivery. You can also customize it this way with whatever length cable you need instead of the one size fits all cable that comes when you order the system from the factory.
In ordering the camera kit afterwards how does the camera cable plug into the truck? Won't the truck have the 4 pin trailer connection instead of the camera connection port?

The camera connection port comes in the box with the camera. Even if you order it from the factory, it's a dealer installed item that replaces the existing 4 way plug...
I hope I'm not repeating a question that's already been asked and answered. Given that the trailer camera and TPMS are considered "dealer installed options" would it not be reasonable to expect the dealer to unmount and remount trailer tires with the TPMS sensors installed? And further, would it not be reasonable to expect that this work should be considered as a part of the purchase price of the truck?
There is no way I'm letting my dealer anywhere near my RV when it comes to wiring or installing the camera, but I know they already know how to change tires.
I agree! It wouldn't cost them anything but labor. But I already know their line on it. "Sir, the service dept will bill the sales dept for all the time they spend on each deal." My response is always, "Sure, that's like taking money out of your left pocket and putting it in your right. My heart bleeds for you."
I called Ford today and got what I am told is the correct part number for extra sensors. hc3z1a189d. Ford wanted $56. Found them online for $34.
Called Discount Tire to see what they would charge to mount them. $2.50 for each one. Dealer is 65 miles away. Discount is 1.5 miles. I'll have Discount do it. Just need to wait a week for the other 2 to come in.
I'm thinking the same Steve. Makes no sense for them to break down 6 tires to install the sensors for $15. That said, whether that's right or not, have them balance the tires while your there. RV's benefit hugely from tire balancing but folks never bother because they don't ride in them and don't feel the vibrations unbalanced wheels/tires cause. The glue and staples that hold the RV together sure feel it though...
