They are sealed power lifters I bought from oreillys when I was working there. Just stock replacements. Like I said, I've had problems with them doing this before, this is the third or fourth one to give me trouble. It's just too bad it had to take the cam out with it....
Those SP lifters may have been the weak link in your built. I'd use a cam combo kits and not piece together so everything is working together when putting a cam set in.
Plus the SP may have been find if not over working them over their rpm limits.
May have pump a few up or floating a lack of oil damage it till it froze up.
All the others are normal. No other lifters are bad. Oil was slightly sparkly. Magnetic plug had some stuff on it. Hopefully the filter caught a lot of it. But I'll be flushing it a couple times when I get it going agin.
hard to miss that wiped lobe .
are you sticking with same Cam specs ? if not shoot me your new cam choices i'll run them on DD5 for you ,so you can see what makes what HP/TQ
Other than the obvious rounded lobe, all your other lobes look pretty worn to me as well. I assume you plan to replace all the lifters with the new cam. What is your normal everyday oil you use?
Just a thought.... You could retro-fit a roller cam in the Cleveland. It'll free up some more horse power, greatly reduce friction, doesn't have to be broken in like a conventional flat tappet and it isn't prone to wiping the lobes off the cam.
