Swapping to a gooseneck (reese goosebox or gen-y gooseneck) make a world of difference, that little ball only weighs 5 lbs. Much easier to get out of the bed then a 5th wheel hitch.

I agree 100%. My Goose Box was slow 2.7" longer than the Gen-Y and the Mor-Ryde it replaced, so built in offset.
I don't know how slow got in there. The center of the ball to the front mounting bolts on the Goose Box are 2.7" longer than the Gen-Y or Mor-Ryde pin boxes. So you get a 2.7" offset built in with the GB.
towed my raptor 429 (19k trailer, roughly 3600lb pin weight) 2 weeks ago for a short (120 round trip) weekend trip, heading to texas in 2 weeks or so to see my grandfather and dont have any worries about the trip. The gooseneck conversions are well worth it, i dont have quite the turning radius (i cant quite get to 90* but can get to roughly 60* in a turn) that a long bed would have but honestly you really only turn like that getting into a parking space, and my truck is more then used to being in the dirt.
We just returned home from towing the 5th wheel 5,500 miles cross country 10 days ago. We decided to take a relaxing and peaceful trip to the local lake.
This is home for the next several days. It is an ACoE park and the spot is on a little peninsula in a cove. Water like glass and a cool breeze off the lake.
Do you have any pictures of how you wired up the inside of the charger? I'm going to be doing a similar mod to pull power from a battery for a different project. Did you just solder the wires to the metal tabs and leave the circuit board in situ, or did you have to do more?
I didn’t take any pics, but yes, I just soldered to the battery contact tabs. I removed all the guts from the inside. I also put a pig tail in the wiring to remove the battery box during travel.
It’s working great! Scissor Jack would be better, but free is free!
Curious what hitch you are using. We have F350 Lariat coming with the 6-3/4 and still hitch shopping.
I am running the 20k goosebox, definitely not needed with the weight of this trailer but figured I’d go bigger seeing as we may upgrade to a bigger trailer in a year or two. It tows great, has plenty of clearance and has a great ride. I installed the factory fifth wheel package as the truck didn’t come with it and am using the B&W ball and tow chain hook.
also use this to fill the goosebox and airbags on truck. Cheap and useful!
Gen-Y torsion executive (https://genyhitch.com/product-catego...-torsion-flex/) at whatever weight you are looking to pull. The one I have is GH-8055 manual locking good for 30k and 4.5k pin weight (has a range of 2k to 4.5k) i genearlly sit right in the middle of the range, all my other trailers are goosenecks so this made everything easier, as well as not having to add another 150-200lbs of hitch to my truck.
