The only thing going back on any time soon is the battery tray and throttle cable bracket. The rest isn't going on until I get a harness back in there and a brake booster reinstalled.

Right now, my big decision is whether I'm going to paint the battery tray with the other parts or put something like bedliner on it.

POR-15 wouldn't be a bad idea. Seals it up and should keep any future corrosion from occurring over time, as battery trays tend to do.

Painted the parts today. Just went ahead and painted the battery tray for now.

Now I'm back to twiddling my thumbs until I can afford to get some more parts. I wish my wallet had the same ambition as I do...

I know there are a lot of folks rooting for me with this build. I now have to ask y'all to cross your fingers for me, pray for me, send good vibes my way, and whatever else will help...

I came across a guy selling an entire front section from a 2000 Excursion. It was cut right above the windshield (about 6 inches back) and across the floor (about the middle of the front doors). This section is 99% COMPLETE- the only thing missing is the windshield and the front bumper. It still has the engine and transmission, and even the front suspension.

In other words- it has nearly everything I need to get mine going again, with a few minor quirks, which are:
1) It is a 2-wheel drive, but that's okay- a future plan was to swap a manual transfer case, and this makes it a bit easier.
2) It is a 5.4, which is also okay- using my 5.4 truck to verify, I found that the underhood harnesses are the same between V8 and V10. My truck has the extra wires needed for a V10.
3) Being a 5.4, it has the matching radiator. I've not checked to see if there is a difference.

Other than those three differences, this section would give me a hood and two fenders that are in better shape than mine, the brake system, an entire collection of parts made from rubber, plastic or aluminum that melted away in my Ex's fire, a grille and grille support, and even a dash harness that doesn't have the electronic transfer case stuff (oh, and that dash harness has never had a hack-job aftermarket alarm system like mine did). Another plus would be a V8 I could tuck away for parts for my truck and a 2WD transmission I could sell.

The asking price on the entire section is $500 (or, less than half of what my list shows where I sourced everything individually from multiple yards).

The reason I need all y'all's finger-crossed good-luck vibes is in the paying-for-it-before-it-sells department. I just started the Voc-Rehab program through the VA, and as part of the program, they have me in a temporary volunteer position (to see if I can manage to do the job, I guess). So my VA pay gets bumped up while I'm on the program- BUT I don't get my first increased pay until July 1st. So I'm going to try to get a 30 or 60 day loan somewhere to cover it.

Does that sound like a decent plan? I just know I'm not going to find all this stuff any cheaper anywhere else, and this comes in an already assembled package. I'm just afraid it will sell if I wait until the 1st...

I'm still playing with diagrams just for the heck of it. Right now, I'm trying to find some kind of diagram showing the rear wiper setup, so I can verify a wire. I'm trying to verify if the WHT/ORG wire on the #3 pin of C1051 (gray firewall plug) is circuit 410, and if it goes to half-relay 205 or 206 in the battery junction box.

I'm also trying to verify the following, which I believe to be the customer access wires:
RED- pin 1 of C1050 (tan firewall plug) circuit 1353
DK-BLU- pin 2 of C1050, circuit 1487
WHT- pin 3 of C1050, circuit 1495
BLK- pin 6 of C1050, circuit 1501

Those 4 wires, plus the one mentioned above, and then I'll know every wire and every plug pinout under the hood of a 2000 Excursion.

I never would have guessed a 5.4 harness has the extra cop/injector plugs tucked away under it. Interesting.

I'm talking about the main harness (along the firewall), not the engine harness. On my 5.4 truck, you can see the extra COP/injector wires pinned out at the C101 and C1043 engine connectors on the truck side of the connectors. Then on the engine side of the connectors, they simply didn't include the wires. I haven't verified if they're pinned out at the PCM connector, but I imagine they are, since they are at the engine connectors.

Very serious build. Props for taking it on. Definitely subscribing to see progress... Since you're the guru of wiring on these things by now, I might have a couple of questions for you myself in the near future...

Well, I didn't get the clip, so I'm back to sourcing parts.

However...

I haven't done anything since my last post on this thread. We've run into a bit of a snag. Some serious drug dealers moved into the house across the street from us. Before the weekend of the 4th, there was a shootout over there and they shot towards our house. We've been concentrating our efforts (and money) on getting the heck out of here. We've got some prospects on places to move to, but because I'm in a VA program, I have to volunteer at the local library for another 4 months. So our plan right now is to stay with family until then, and we're trying to buy a box truck to load/move/store our stuff until then.

Geez man--glad you and the family are ok! I take it local law enforcement isn't up for the task. That would slow my repair efforts as well. If they were in MT well they wouldn't be in MT--not very long. There's something about the potential of anyone having a gun that seems to be a deterrent for the bad guys. Noticed there are some box trucks on eBay--hope you find what you need soon.

We've got two box vans we are looking at fairly local. Both are diesel Fords, both under $2000.

No, the police aren't doing squat. They said they'd step up their patrols in our area- but we haven't seen the first police car since then. They're either paid off or afraid they'll start another Ferguson...
