Psyclopse's "up from the ashes" build thread.
I know there are 5 wires on this 8-pin plug, I have found FOUR of them:
BLK/LT-BLU (53) Running board lamps
DK-GRN/PPL (1435) Parking Aid
PPL/ORG (1436) Parking Aid
LT-BLU/WHT (70) Parking Aid
I've spent two hours pouring through all the diagrams I have and can't find that fifth wire. I guess I'll have to trace it on the vehicle and see what I come up with.
The connector is arranged as such:
OOXX
OOOX
(where "O" has a wire and "X" does not)
Problem is, I have no idea how it is numbered. Maybe I can pry the connector apart tomorrow- it is the least melted of the bunch.
This connector DOES appear in wiring manuals I've found for 2002, but none of the wire colors match up and there are more wires. Why would Ford leave this out of their documentation for 2000?
It looks like I'll probably be needing to replace harnesses 15525 and 14405 as well...
Fortunately, most of the stuff is simple bolt-on stuff...

Park brake cable
AC line from compressor (the one that splits for rear HVAC)
SOMEDAY WAY OFF IN THE FUTURE
Spring swap
Towing mirrors
Off-road bumpers
Who knows- I can't even be thinking of mods yet...
That is one big list but shouldn't be too hard to tackle. You are doing it right and getting the full list before you tear too far in.
This unsightly address should take you to a diagram to the Park Assist Module..dont know if it will help
I was just able to get the C1047 connector apart, and deconstructed the plug to better see the wire colors:

Starting from bottom left:
LT-BLU/WHT (70) Parking Aid
LT-BLU/PNK (?) ???
BLK/LT-BLU (53) Running board lamps

The plugs don't have any pin numbers, so I don't know where 1 starts and 8 ends, BUT, I guess I really don't have to have that. With only 5 wires, it will be easy enough to make sure the harnesses match. I just wanted it because I'm a completist.
Going by the last picture provided by TheBigBee and knowing how BLK/PNK wires seem to be used, I'm guessing it falls under one of the "power distribution" headings.
I got a nice 2 hour nap in and now I am back at the plant. This is going to be a rough week.

Hey if you figure out any wires that would let the middle 2 backup sensors work but not the outside ones--let me know..lol

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts

I know the three harnesses I am chasing start with the prefix YC3Z. I just spent hours learning about the numbering system.
I also know the middle numbers:
12A581 for the underhood harness
14405 for one of the harnesses that run under the cowl (primarily rear lights/fuel tank/rear ABS)
15525 for the other harness that runs under the cowl (primarily transmission, transfer case)
Where I'm getting tripped up is with the SUFFIX. I've looked at dozens of sites explaining the suffix, and they all speak of one or two digits. BUT, some of my search results are coming back with THREE digits.
And on top of that, I can't find ANY identification on the wiring I have.
Here's what I've found:

And these are just what I have found on Google, Ebay and different Ford parts sites. There are probably MORE.
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW...
1) Which harnesses apply to MY Excursion
2) Descriptions for the harnesses that I don't have descriptions for
3) A listing of any other variations and their descriptions
While #1 is all that applies to ME, I figured since I was this deep into it, I may as well try to compile information in case others need it someday.
WHAT I'VE LEARNED SO FAR...
1) Excursions and pickups with the V8 must already have the wires in place in their main underhood harness for the extra two cylinders of a V10 (see descriptions for YC3Z-12A581-AS, -BS, -CR, & -FS)
2) The YC3Z-15525-AA harness was used in 2-wheel drive Excursions and trucks, as well as 4x4 manual transfer case trucks. The YC3Z-15525-BA harness was used in 4x4 ESOF trucks and Excursions. People converting 2WD to 4x4 don't have to change this harness if they use a manual transfer case. (I wonder what PCM changes would have to be made to convert an Excursion to a manual case using an -AA harness?)
3) The YC3Z-14405 harness is the same between a diesel and gas WITHOUT California Emissions- all I have to do is choose running board lights or not (my truck was missing the right running board, and I removed the left- personal preference. BUT- having the running board harness would give the option of adding some other kind of running light- I could build a harness up to some clearance lights, for instance)
4) After studying wiring diagrams and plug pinouts, I found that I CAN use a YC3Z-14405 harness equipped for California Emissions- the wires pertaining to California Emissions would just be dead inside the harness, as they would pin out to empty sockets on each end of the harness.
So the easiest one will be the YC3Z-15525 harness. It just has to come from a gas Excursion or pickup with automatic and ESOF.
The YC3Z-14405 harness is fairly easy as well. I can get it off of ANY Excursion- gas or diesel, just watching for if I want running board lights or not (at this point, I really don't care). It is "kinda" Excursion-specific, meaning I could easily modify one from a truck, so long as the wheelbase works out and the options line up.
The hard one will be the YC3Z-12A581 harness. It is not only Excursion-specific, it is also pretty option-specific (I pretty much have to get it close to the way my Excursion is optioned out unless I want to modify it some). It is also the harness that took the brunt of the fire damage. THIS IS THE HARNESS I NEED THE MOST (in all reality, I could just grab the plugs and a couple feet of wire for the other two harnesses and repair what I have- which I may end up doing until I can find better harnesses).
Whew! That was a long winded post...
But here's the harness and it's damage...
The following pic is a closer view of the damage to this harness and what's left of the two plugs (C103 and C1044).
Two wires from the harness don't go to either plug (a yellow wire and an orange wire). They instead went straight up to the transfer case shift relays.
Also, four wires from the C1044 plug don't go into this harness (a black wire, a dark green/light green wire, a brown/white wire and an orange/light blue wire). These run from the plug up to the transfer case shift relays.
In case anyone wants the geek of it:
YEL from harness goes to the low-to-high shift relay
ORG from the harness goes to the high-to-low shift relay
BRN/WHT from the plug goes to the low-to-high shift relay
ORG/LT-BLU from the plug goes to the high-to-low shift relay
DK-GRN/LT-GRN from the plug goes to BOTH relays
BLK from the plug goes to BOTH relays
As you can see, these relays (which used to hang off the left side of the underhood fuse/relay box) are no longer attached to these six wires. I did find the remains of these relays melted to and hanging off of a brake line...

I could go to the salvage yard and cut these two plugs, the relay base and a couple feet of wire out of the plugs, and splice them into this harness, but I'm sure that'd be asking for an electrical nightmare down the road. Since this will be the easiest harness to find, I'd just assume see if I can replace the whole thing. I can get it out of any early Excursion or any early SD truck from F250-F550 as long as it has the same transmission and ESOF (by early, I mean 99-01, possibly 02).

I also devised the following "continuity test" to test this harness when I come across one in the salvage yard...
The geek factor is pretty high with this build...
