Psyclopse's "up from the ashes" build thread.
No dice.
Only one had an Excursion 12A581 harness, and whoever took the engine and frame just cut the important plugs off the harness (the two engine harness plugs and all four plugs going under the truck).
I couldn't find a 14405 or 15525 harnesses either, except for a few 15525's that were pretty well butchered (or still attached to a transmission that they wouldn't separate the harness from).
Back to searching...
I also devised the following "continuity test" to test this harness when I come across one in the salvage yard...
The geek factor is pretty high with this build...

(Wife did have a Chevy Aveo when we got together, but we traded it for a Jeep Wrangler)
I DO NOT have Parking Assist. For some reason, I was thinking all Limited's had it, but I guess not. Since I don't have Parking Assist and I removed my running boards, it is likely that I don't have to worry much about the C1047 plug at the firewall.
The C401 plug at the rear of the 14405 harness IS what the tail light harness plugs into. It is a square 16-pin plug. Park Assist wires would also pass through this plug if I had Park Assist. But since I don't, I only have 5 wires that pass through this plug-
#1 (BRN) Marker lamps
#2 (BLK/PNK) Reverse lamps
#3 (LT-GRN/ORG) Left stop/turn
#4 (BLK) Ground
#16 (ORG/LT-BLU) Right stop/turn
There is also a branch off of the harness BEFORE the C401 plug that runs the license plate lamps. the wires tie into the same (BLK) and (BRN) wires that go to the above C401 plug. For some dumb reason, Ford decided to complicate the harness having these as the only two lamps not to go through the C401 and tail lamp harness (and both are right there in the same area- looks like it would have been easier to keep them with the tail lamp harness).
The branch I mentioned above that doesn't go through C401, but instead picks up the license plate lamps ALSO terminates in a connector. The connector has a dummy plug connected to it with one wire in a loop. I thought maybe this was for the Parking Aid, but the wire colors I have in all of my diagrams do not correspond to the wire colors on the Excursion. It is a round, 8-pin connector:
OOXX
OOOO
Colors are approximate, flashlight was dying):
Top:
(BLK/PPL)
(WHT/LT-BLU)
EMPTY
EMPTY
Bottom:
(DK-BLU/YEL)
(DK-GRN/WHT)
(WHT/LT-GRN)
(DK-GRN/LT-GRN)
The dummy plug hooked to this connector loops a wire from the (DK-GRN/LT-GRN) back to one of the empty pins.
I'm pretty sure the connector for the trailer harness jumper is called C407.
But my trailer harness jumper IS called YC3T-13A576-BD (the sticker was still there).
No idea what the harness number for the tail lamp harness is. I don't really need to know it, other than correctly labeling it if I do a harness drawing for it.
Question-- would I have to drop the gas tank to disconnect the wiring to it? Flashlight completely died before I got that far...
I did an easy one- the tail light harness for Excursions without Park Assist.
The harness name is YC3Z-13A409-AA. (For Ex's with Park Assist, the suffix would be "-BA." If anyone would like me to do a tail light harness diagram for those with Park Assist, I need a volunteer who don't mind taking off their license plate and crawling under their Ex to grab connector pin-outs and colors).
NOTE: I drew the tail lamp bulbs wrong on this diagram. The (BLK) wire should be in the middle. But you get the idea...
YC3T-12B637-BH Engine Harness (powers COPs, injectors, various sensors)...
Also scored a power steering fluid reservoir (needs new hoses though)...
A little scrub-a-dub-dub on the firewall sure helped a bunch...
Still debating on the harness that goes back to the tail lights, fuel tank, speed sensor and towing plug. I can't seem to find one for an Excursion anywhere. I'm thinking I could use one from a pickup and just extend the wires for the fuel tank.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I went to another yard today-- no Excursions there, but they did have a Super Duty of the same year that had some useable stuff on it. Problem is, I kinda got away from big automotive projects like this about seven years ago, so now prices on stuff seems high to me (but it's probably just me thinking in 2007-08 salvage yard pricing).
So, my question is: Is this yard's quote of $75 decent for all of the following parts:
Left plastic inner fender
Air filter housing (it's a V8 truck, is the filter housing the same as a V10?)
Evap canister
Evap purge valve
Throttle cable
Hood release cable
Left Hood strut
Coolant tank
Washer fluid tank
All four bulb holders for the tail lights
Back in '07 I could have gotten all that for 20 or 30 bucks, but everything is more expensive now. They also quoted me $100 for a dent-free/rust free hood, but it's dark blue (I was hoping to find a white one for my truck, then move the one on my truck onto the Excursion until I could save up for the cowl hood I want).
Today's progress:
Removed the alternator so I can take it to the 'Zone to have it tested.
Removed the burned-up hose that used to go to the PS reservoir just to find water in the PS pump.
Cleaned some more on the intake (I have the throttle body & spacer off to make it easier).
It looks like the intake is going to clean up fine without having to remove it.

The other yard I frequent gives me killer deals on stuff because I know everyone there and I worked there about 15 years ago (but they don't have the stuff I listed above).
It looks like I've got most of the parts sourced except for the wiring harnesses that I still need.
Also forgot to mention that I put the Excursion's chrome bumper on my truck, since I plan to do an 05 upgrade on the Excursion...

IT TESTED OUT 100% FINE!

Also finished cleaning the engine. I decided against removing the intake and blasting it, so instead of sparkling new clean, I have oldie-but-goodie clean. Deciding factor was the fact that I'm doing this outdoors and have a lot of other things on the Ex that needs attention.
Today I'm going to pull all of the left COPs and replace them with good ones I have. When I had three bad COPs on my truck, I just replaced them all and kept the old good ones "just in case I need them someday."
Sad thing is- all the left COPs are likely good, but their connectors are melted to the harness connectors.
