Coming along man, if you've got plates means it'll be running soon?
Depending on weather and school load, I "HOPE" to have it running by next weekend. That's my target date, because the following week is a major brake lab at school, and I hope to have the Ex there to be the victim.
PROGRESS TIME.... WITH PICS!
First and foremost, the engine bay harness IS FINALLY INSTALLED!!! The only harness I have left to do is the tail light/fuel tank harness. Oh, and I still have to hook up the underside portion of the new battery cables. I had to splice in the wiper motor wires (the soldering part of electrical class REALLY improved my soldering) and I had to splice in one ABS lead, but it's done! I never though this day would get here!
Here are a couple pics of the passenger side- never mind the missing AC components, I have a hole blown in one of the hoses, so I'm not worried about AC right now (maybe next semester, when I'm in the automotive HVAC class. )
And another angle...
And here's one from the drivers side- the inner fender is still out- it made life so much easier when hooking up the firewall connectors. I still have to do the power steering stuff, so I'm going to leave it out for now...
And believe me, I'm leaving that cruise switch on the master cylinder UNHOOKED until I can get the recall harness!!!
Definitely looking a lot better. On the throttle cable bracket the little elbow hose behind is a common issue for drying out and cracking. As prevention and during replacement I went ahead and used some old hose as rub protection. See the picture below.
Is that the PCV hose? If so, mine's not under the throttle body- the ones with the port coolant attachments are on the side, near the brake booster hose. I have no idea why Ford used two different locations, depending on if coolant circulates around the PCV or not.
Been a little bit- I've had a pretty heavy school load and the Jeep just won't stay on the road, constantly leaving us without transportation.
BUT...
The engine bay wiring is all done, transmission harness is done, and the rear harness is 95% done (still have to solder up the ground wire and put the tank back in once I get it emptied). I've removed 18 gallons of year-and-a-half old gas and can't do no more until I figure out where to dispose of it (I've used up all my cans). The tank is still too heavy to get back up into place, so I'm guessing the prior owner must have filled up sometime shortly before the fire.
ANYWAY, I started getting ants in my pants, wanting to feel/see/hear some progress. So, I hooked up the negative battery cable to see what would happen...
1 ) NO SMOKE!!!
2 ) I was using the spare (non-fob) key, so the theft light was blinking.
3 ) Inserting the key with the door open, and the door dinger started working.
4 ) Turned the key to the run position, and the gauges moved to their positions (except for the fuel gauge, which is unhooked at the tank).
5 ) Bumped it to the start position, and the starter cranks with no abnormal noise.
6 ) Back in the run position, both front and rear blowers work.
7 ) Headlight switch makes lights come on. Turn signal switch makes turn signals come on.
8 ) Took the radio out of the truck and put it back in the Excursion (where it came from) and turned it on. Turned to first random radio station. OFFICIAL FIRST SONG: ROLLING STONES- IT'S ONLY ROCK AND ROLL.
Things I noticed NOT working:
1 ) Lie-o-meter: completely dead.
2 ) Front blower: high speed only.
3 ) Quarter flip windows- don't work at all.
4 ) Dome lamps- none work.
5 ) Power windows: I assume they don't work because I am missing the master switch panel on the drivers door.
6 ) I noticed that only the front door speakers are working. Even toyed with the fader to be sure.
7 ) Misc stuff that I still need to hook up, like the wiper motor, fuel pump/level, etc.
Still have a lot to do and this might not seem like much to those who have Excursions that run, but this was total excitement to me (especially the "nothing started smoking" part. It looks like there is a pretty good chance that my PCM might have survived the fire. We'll see shortly- if I can ever get rid of all this old gas...
Super interesting thread. I am rooting for you! Keep up the good work. Your wiring skills are amazing. I am so scared to try any wiring is not funny. Sounds like your first test had a lot more good happen than bad.

Fuel tank is back in and holding about 10 gallons of fresh, new fuel. I'm getting the rapid theft light with the chipped key, and it was getting late. So I came inside, cleaned up and searched for the key relearn info. Will try tomorrow.
Wiring is now complete, but I did discover that I don't have the bulb sockets for the backup lamps. All other lights are now working. I did have a brake light issue, but it turned out to be a blown fuse. Also, the dome light issue was a blown fuse as well.
Tomorrow's plans include:
1) Attempting to make PATS happy
2) Figuring out the speaker issue
3) Finishing up the underhood stuff on the driver side front
4) And hopefully- attempting to start...
