Of course it was their add but they said:
1. it would work on fiberglass and painted surfaces, just scuff with a scotchbrite and shoot and
2. (Something I'd never thought about) their product is no flammable, unlike bed liner (not my word theirs) and lighter.
I'm trying to decide what to do on my 56 soon to be a BBW once I get it back from the body shop. I don't wanna have to go through this (the Bodyshop vortex) ever again. Just to be clear I'm in no way promoting Lizard Skin or their products, in fact I've never used them, just saying what THEY claim about their products.
I do have a question on your wife's truck. On my other 56 the back bottom of the cab is rotteted between the cab corners. I believe you said hers was too and that you fabbed a repair piece for the bottom. Can you elaborate on how you did it?
You talking about this piece? I made it in two pieces and welded them together, I only have a 3 ft metal brake. I just fashioned it from the original piece. It welds up between the floor lip and back panel..
Yes that's the place/piece. So you didn't curve it on the bottom or try to replicate the ridges running down the cab? I'm not jacking you for what you did or didn't do, just trying to under stand what I need to do to repair this
This cab wasn't rotted that far up the back panel. If I were doing the repair on that I'd likely start the ribs up a little higher because it's not going to be seen but if you took your time I think it could be made . The rear cab corners have some of that area formed for you already. I'd start with the 90° bend first clamp it to your work bench and with a piece of pipe or round rod the same radius bend it over then work on hammering in the ribs over a hardwood form..
Yes, I have both inner and outer cab corners. I thought about just cutting the inner off where they were rusted through but figured all it was was spotwelds and drilled them all out. VERY good move. There wasn't a lot of rot up in there but there was trash and rust. With the inner corner completely off I can clean where the Welds need to be and what the Welding is to sooo much easier.
Well I'm glad to hear your opinion on that back bottom. I wish I had a brake but I thought about using the work bench and a pipe for the radius. I just wasn't understand you two part description.

The piece I did in 2 pieces was the hat shaped piece inside the cab that spanned between the 2 inner corners..
We took a cruise today to add to the amount of bugs smeared on the front of the truck before washing it this evening. It's now clean enough to dirty again..

Gotcha,
After removing the inner corner on the drivers side I can see the piece you're talking about has damage, maybe, an inch on the end. Don't think I'll need to replace the whole thing, but my rear floor is also in good shape. Only part of my floor that's bad is the drivers rocker and about 10" around the front cab mount on the same side.
My wife and I spent a bit of time yesterday polishing it up and she was out today taking some pictures to show off her hard work. So for everyone who sees it say they say they like it better than my panel
Both are very nice, but I am tilted to the panel.
I notice on the pickup your inside door handles and window cranks, I believe you said you had power windows, so are the window cranks actually the switch for the windows and if they are how do you like them so far. I have purchased the window crank switch for my panel so it would be nice to hear from someone with actual use.

I like them Gerry and they work great, these switches were from Rocky Hinge and are 16 spline 1/2" shafts that GM used. The shafts for the Fords were 16 spline also but 7/16 in size. I had planned on using the stock handles that I purchased but temporarily using mismatched handles until my new ones come in..
