Frankly, I wish they would switch the drive configuration to make the front end pull in 2WD and then engage the rears when needed, but that would probably be some real MONDO CV joints needed along with a much larger differential unit.
Your truck is no different than any other 4wd truck, they are all just about helpless in 2WD mode when faced with any challenging traction situations..
I kind of like hearing the tire on the road songs, sure beats singing the "Stuck in the Snow" or "Can't get a Grip" Blues.
I would have replaced them by now, but with the cost of 7 new tires I figured I would get some miles out of the factory supplied set first.
I had those same tires on my '11 and did not think highly of them, but then $$$$. At 39,000 mi the tires looked almost new, they do wear good, but traction is not their strong suit.
Some nice clean truck pics. Mine is filthy from the salt and sand on the roads. Can't wait for winter to end, I hate snow and cold more every year.
I have GY Duratracs on mine, they work great in the snow, I can still hang the rear end out on side streets if I want, not overly noisy on the highway but I have nothing to compare to as they were put on new when I bought the truck used. I rarely need to engage 4wd, unless the snow is up to the spoiler and I'm pretending to be a plow.
I picked up a set of used factory wheels right after I got my truck and installed Cooper M&S tires on them. The Cooper M&S work very well, they are soft and won't last in the summer. I still run the stock BF Goodrich in the summer.
I usually don't complain (too much) about winter. This winter I have the new Jolly Green to work on.....The 5th wheel to make improvements to.....and a Garage to finish stripping and rebuild the interior........
All requires temps in the 30's and lite winds.......
Headlights Dim and Dimmer, wow could Ford have done a bit better.
Looking for some effective simple solutions, no HID or rewiring
Any recommendations?
Don, some have gone with HIDs then went back. Most just change to a brighter bulb and adjust them slightly upwards for better coverage, especially with the nose slightly down. I haven't adjusted my lights as they are better at night with the 5er in tow due to it sitting more level.
