Oh, and that damn insert in the receiver hitch. Cripes, put a stop on it when you slide it in, so it easily lines up the holes for the pin and clip. Seriously?
This is really a pain in the *ss when trying to put a huge weight distribution hitch in!

Know anyone with a welder?
A simple little tack weld that would be easy to knock off with a grinder or even a file will fix that. I agree that we should not have to do this, but it is an option..

Would only be a solution for people that only use 2" recievers only as you would have to knock it off, weld it, knock it off, weld it over and over between hitches.
I've read every post in this thread and I can't believe this one isn't in here.
How about whenever there is water, heavy dew, rain, etc on the roof of the truck and when your windows are cracked or down and you slow down or try to stop and it all pours right in on top of the door panels, especially right on all the window and door electrical controls! I cant get the windows back up fast enough...

I will add a little lip to the adapter so that it can't slide in too far. won't affect the hitch.. will post pic.

I've only been on the planet for a short 61 years, but in those years and working around a ton of equipment, I'll be honest in saying, I have never yet laid eyes let alone hands on a hitch that has a mount larger than 2" square. Certainly they are out there, but the odds that I will ever need one are really small...
Mine will get a tack weld as I have a half dozen different 2" receiver hitches for my various trailers...

While that might work for you, I agree. However, my weight distribution hitch is 2 1/2" and almost every other hitch I have is 2" and would handle most any other trailer I would pull with the receiver.
