I think I would look into either relocating the DEF tank or building a custom one that would fit in the allowable space. As reported elsewhere, it's only a five gallon tank. How difficult would that be to hide in there?

well, it seems the truck designers had some difficulties matching the requirements (large fuel tank) with the capabilities (def fill access, it freezes, etc, etc, etc)

Sure seems like Ford could have done something to put a larger fuel tank in our trucks... Especially the short beds. I am not complaining about the 38 gal tank in the long bed - even though I still bring extra fuel with me.

This is true Sam... However, the aftermarket does not have to play by the same restrictive rules that the OEM designers/engineers have to play by.
I was told a long time ago that many things are still done using old school technology etc., because if they were to make even minor changes in materials or construction techniques that it would cost cost the mfgr millions of dollars to re-certify the new materials etc..
I bet I could sneak a 5 gallon DEF tank just into the side of the bed of the truck between the inner and outer walls..

I don't think any of that stuff can be outside the frame rails on production vehicles.

yes, aftermarket can do all kinds of things, without having to follow the same rules. and its a lot easier to make 10 than to have someone else make 300,000, and deliver them to the line just in time.

Hard to believe, some day the 12 will be the truck with the fuel barrel, grease guns, log chains, auger hoppers, spare parts, lunch bag, warm clothes, dirt, dust, grime, scratches Etc.

The electric heater is great. We have heat before getting to end of driveway.
