Funny, on my maiden voyage yesterday I stop at one of my buddies shop to order a new windshield for the 6.0. While I am there he mentions that he has a guy that is buying a 03 6.0 X that has a noise in the motor and asked if I could do "all the work" on it and asked for a quote. I gave him the quote and also stated if the guy doesn't buy the X to please pass the info on it on to me so I can possibly pick it up.
I am curious what problems or difficulties the early 6.0's had compared to the later ones with the IPS on the valve cover?
The previous owner of the X took it into the dealer and they charged him $1500 for just diagnosis and they still didn't know what was wrong! WOW!

There's not a tremendous amount of differences in the 03 and 04 motors but a few. Oil rails and ICP sensor location are the biggies. FICM mounts a bit different. Blocks will interchange. Glowplugs are longer and pistons are different. Glowplugs use a bussbar vs. a harness.
Get your butt back to Excursion site, you are too busy pimping your ride overthere
Your right, the 6.0 side is good when I'm constipated cause it does give me the chits. I have learned a ton of great information here and after months of reading I still bought a 6.0

I myself have been reading for quite some time and educated myself on the 6.0. Yes, there were fears, but after some reading and learning how to care for one, I was satisfied that I'd be able to do so and bought one when the chance finally came.
Not once have I regretted my owning my 6.0 Excursion
Took the 6.0 to get wood today. I plugged the truck in last night and this morning she popped right off! Like surprisingly fast it started. Drove the 20ish miles one way, tried out the 4wd which worked great with just turning the **** on the dash! Cut wood, family loaded, and made it home without missing a beat. Even after the trans temp gauge dropped and the lights came on it drove just fine. It has been getting quieter and smoother as I believe the air is being worked out of every nook and cranny.
I was also quite surprised the truck didn't seem to squat one bit with the load of oak in the back and it also rode surprisingly nice and no clunks or noises. I must admit I like the 5r100!
You have total control and don't really need to use the brakes cause the trans is in full control the the skinny pedal, how do I know this you ask? I had to use it going to rescue Belle my Blu tick going thou the Poconos in a blinding snow storm

Nothing wrong with off road except one thing.....taxes
No road tax makes the gov very mad when not getting there cut
Was raised on a farm, pump a lot of off road but not in the pickup
