The calipers mount in a floating bracket and then that floating bracket will mount to my custom bracket. Even though the caliper only has one piston, because it floats in the bracket you actually get equal pressure on both sides of the rotor.
Think of it like a vise with one fixed jaw and one moveable jaw. You can tighten things up pretty well no? Even though the moveable jaw in all respects is equivalent to the single piston in the caliper.
Also, because the majority of your stopping power comes from the front brakes (% varies depending on your bias) the thick brackets I'm making are more than sufficient to withstand the torsional load that will be applied to them. There will be hardly any lateral load when the brakes are applied. The weakest part of the whole assembly are the four 3/8 (OEM) mounting bolts at the axle flanges.
That's why OEM stuff can be so thin and still work fine..
In to follow, I have been scouring the web trying to find a more pro touring method of lowering my truck (sb 74 f100) rather than just "dropping it." I would like function over form. Liking your build, only performance suspensions I could find for older pickups were the stuff for c/k10s like no limit offers. Noticed they make stuff for up to 72 ford trucks but I don't know if they can be adapted to the 73-78 trucks? I would like to auto cross my truck as opposed to just lowering for looks, like the direction you have gone with yours. Thanks for all the pics.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but since we are talking about front suspension, what's the argument for doing it the Ford way? I mean, by this time most manufacturers were using upper and lower control arms.
Saw these on Craigslist this morning and struck a deal with the guy. I just couldn't press them up for $500.
They are 19" 2013 Mustang wheels with brand new Pirelli tires that have ZERO miles on them. The car rolled off the transporter and immediately had Cobra wheels and tires put on it.
I think they are going to look sweet on Project F'nstein. Going out to bolt them on shortly, but here's a sneak peek:

I got them installed and I'm totally digging the new look.
IMO they really wake up the look of the truck. I'll had to install some 10mm spacers up front to clear the caliper brackets and I'll likely add some even wider ones to bring the fronts as close as possible to the front fenders without rubbing.
they suit your truck to a T, at least I know 19's fit so 20's should as well just got to work out back space & off set when I'm ready.. keep up the amazing work.
