Not much done in a couple weeks. Just celebrated my sons first birthday! Very excited parents. I did pick up my custom tranny crossmember tubes. Pretty trick
Happy Birthday to your son. I noticed his thumb is red, how did you get him to keep it out of his mouth for the picture? lol. My 8 yr old still sucks his thumb, when he sleeps, or we're not looking.
Got the transmission dog leg, and bars installed today. Got this set up from Industrial Chassis in Phoenix AZ. This place is bad a$$. Steve definitely knows his stuff. Really cool place to visit too. He let's ya walk around the shop and take a look. Huge shop.
Marked and cut out the lowe frame lip.
Mocked everything up.
And violaa... (however you spell that word)
Gotta give much thanks to Garbz for helping me out. (obi wan Kenobi)
Next weekend, taking out the 8.8, and dropping in the 9"
Haven't done too much in a while. Sold the 8.8, waiting to close on the new house before I purchase moser axles and no limit rear 4 link. I did install the 22 gallon mustang gas tank just like John niolon's write up.
Just a little update, the wife and I bought a new house a few months ago. That and getting ready for another baby boy has been eating all my time. Haven't done much in a while. I'm waiting in the ford 9 inch right now. Oh, I bought some chip foose nitrous black wheels. 20x10 in rear, and 20x8.5 in front. Then gonna order the no limit fatbar 4 link with coil overs. Besides trying to widen the rear fenders, the only thing I've done is tear out old shock crossmember, and weld in tubular crossmember. The 9" is 64 1/4" wide so I don't have to tub the bed, but I do need to get the 3" wider glass fenders. My body work skills are not very good right now.
Here's wheels
Cut out old shock crossmember
Drilled holes 2" below top rivet location
Mocked up DOM tubing to determine how much to cut off
Looking good. Yeah I have some trouble getting welds to look pretty. I used to blame the equipment but now I know its me because sometimes I get lucky and they look ok.
I have a Hobart 130 mig for the shock crossmember, with .025 wire. I know it's not enough power and wire is too small. The almighty Garbz is gonna clean up my welds when we weld in the 4 link with his lincoln 220v.

Looking good! Really digging on your build. And don't be so hard on yourself, your welds aren't too bad. I've seen far, far worse. Before long, you'll be a master welder like Garbz. The Hobart your using is more than powerful enough for what you are doing.
I have a Lincoln 135, and using .023 wire I can run single pass welds in beveled 1/4 inch plate with it that look like robotic welds. (Using it 6 or 7 hours a day, everyday for 15 years doesn't hurt the technique, ).
The nice thing about using the smaller wire is, things go a bit slower, so you can actually see the metal being deposited, making the whole process easier to control when you're starting out. Get your welding hood shade adjusted properly, and you can even see the metal swirling inside the puddle. It's kind of mesmerizing.
