...Like my brother said the other night, I only needed 1 wire for this engine to run and I had to go an put all this crap on it to complicated everything!
Ain't that the truth!
Looking good! Can't wait to see the panel in the dash
It is definitely lookin good! Ugh, small stuff, each one by itself is small but there are a 1000 of them to do. Amsoil...ouch, but it is good stuff
The Amsoil isn't any more expensive than the GM and Chrysler OEM oil (castrol syncrotorq). Plus I had a hard time finding it. Figured I'd go Amsoil and not worry about availability or trying to find a cheaper replacement. FYI the NV4500's have fiber lined syncros that require special oil.

Yup! Part number ATM-3788. FYI this tach is meant to mount on the top of the steering collumn. You can see the mounting is different than the other gauges. But I made it work without any issues.
Back in the day a large portion of NV4500 failures around here, (rural, farming and cows), could be attributed to improper oil and not changing the oil (keeping it clean). Ranchers and farmers were slow to understand that this new transmission needed regular maintenance. They were used to the old 4spds that they had driven for decades without thinking about to a tranny that needed regular oil changes. Hell back then I was guilty too. I doted over the engine but tranny, t-case, diffs didn't get much attention unless there was a problem. NV4500 is a great transmission, just needs correct/clean oil. Small price to pay for overdrive and smooth operation. I love Amsoil, run it in my 5600 and engine.

Thanks for the input! From my research I've heard the same thing. I was going to run just plain gear oil, but glad I did my research! Especially after doing all the work to rebuild it.

Amsoil MTG. It actually says on the back of the bottle "for NV4500 Transmissions"

Mounting is what caught my eye & made me ask. I saw it was a column mount setup & remembered those being a different size.
Every time I think I've settled on a tach I see something different & my design ADD takes me a wonderin'.

I had a hell of a time finding a diesel tach that I liked and would work. Autometer definitely needs to up their game with their diesel tach selection, very disappointed as far as that goes. But happy with the end result.

TOTALLY agree they need to up their game. That is why I am in the dillema I am in = finding one I actually like for the truck. As of now I'm going with a 3-3/8", 6k gasser tach. I wanted a 4 or 5k limit, but they only make those in 2-1/6" gauges from what I can find & that just seems too dang small for a tach in my opinion

I agree 2-1/16 is too small for a tach. Besides not being able to read it clearly and quickly, it just looks funky! I really like how my gauges turned out, the proportions are just right.

Heh Heh, I DEFINATELY know what that feels like.
Ive been running this same tach with black face for about 10 years,(on the column). Had a small problem on install, had to get them to send another pickup but haven't had a single problem since.
