Hey '49,
If I get our truck above 65mph - I start thinking "did I torque down those bolts", "I wonder what that noise is", "Is that shaking feeling the wheels, ujoint, tie rods, falling off".
Couldn't agree more with those sentiments...but then I did have a wheel come off shortly after I got the truck running, fortunately I was going slow and was almost stopped when it did come off.
My longest drive so far has been around 40 miles round trip and for the most part I have been staying off of the Interstates except for some short runs. I need to get brave and try going for a nice extended drive through the countryside....after all my AAA is paid up so I am covered if she breaks and I need a tow.
Hi, thanks..... It was a pretty short ride there, suprised my family by showing up on a Saturday afternoon after work. I had about 500 miles on her at that point, so had already done and gone thru the shake down "nut and bolt" check. I have other pics earlier in the trip, I was trying to catch the odometer at the right miles to match her hp. Was a great trip, other than the bugs.... Lack of side windows..... Amazing how much wind noise with out the sides in... But trust me I had a huge smile for the hundred plus mile cruise..... So glad i took pics!
Here is a windshield shot from a fishing trip. About 170 miles from home.
I sometimes tow Teddy four down behind the motor home, the furthest we have had him is Tulsa Ok. The towed miles don't show on the odometer, he has almost 6000 on his own power. The speedo is pretty close it shows 70 when GPS is at 68. On the highway he is averaging 14.5 MPG
Hope you don't mind me posting my Fridge windshield pictures. (this is the forum I started with)
Beautiful truck, Wally! I can appreciate that kind of scenery, very similar to around here. It's a lot different driving out there in a 50 or 60 yr old truck than back East. No cell, no gas stations, no water... you could get eaten by coyotes!
Hey Wally,
Beautiful through the window shot - I like it. You are welcome here any time. I thought you guys got a ton of rain? That shot looks like dry & hot West Texas to me - another 100 degree day here today. Snow is starting to sound good....
Thanks guys!
That trip was before all the rain, we get the rain over with quick and then bone dry the rest of the year.
Ross you are right about that back east and big city driving, I prefer the wide open space. There are so many back road places I still want to drive Teddy!

Nobody minds.
It was kind of a bummer when they split the forum, but I understand why. It was getting.....well, it had gotten huge. If they were going to split it, the '56-'57 line was a pretty good one. It's a pretty major design leap.
Little different through the windshield shot, but my wife said my smile was so big she couldn't pass up this shot. Taken during my recent trek around the yard, driven for the first time since 1987.
Happy for you. It doesnt get much better than that...
