Man down...
I had a 2000 7.3 that the engine would shut down and restart going down the road (reason for re start it was a manual transmission). This went on for years and would only happen once every three to four months took it to the dealer to get fix. They could not produce the same problem and would never throw a code so they could not fix it. Finally one day truck shut down started back up and the battery light came on. The alternator was change about one year prior to this so I take alternator off and had tested at the parts house. Turned out the alternator was good. So frustrated took truck back to dealer told them to fix it. Mechanic calls me and say alternator was bad. I told him that I had it tested at parts house, but if you say it bad change it. Mechanic calls me back says changed alternator still not working. After about an hour he calls me back again says the fuseable link fired and puts old alternator back on. Go to pickup truck and the mechanic says did you get the recall yet on your truck. I said no. He says that a recall came out two days ago to replace the cam senor (which he did). Ever since that date truck never shut down while going down the road.
So basically for years I had a bad or faulty cam senor the would not throw a code.

If they don't get it fixed by Friday I would tow it to another dealership. Hang in there, it'll get fixed.
(and how many days has it been in the shop total the first year?)
I would try to 'encourage' them to give you a comparable loaner for your vacation !
good luck !
To me it's just good customer service.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Called and they told me to bring it in that afternoon. I got the truck back 7 business days later (+1 weekend). The explanation was that part had to be removed, Ford wanted to inspect it before Ford would approve the ordering of a replacement part -- the evaporator!
My truck was down for 10 days, when I knew exactly what was wrong and I suspect they did as well once they saw where the dye came from.
Good luck Savage!

I was camping and we had a great time! I received a txt from my wife on Friday morning that my truck was done and that we could pick it up when I got home from camping. I was very relieved. Long story short...PCM failed because the alternator was faulty due to what they thought was a negative draw from the main wiring harness. They put NEW PCM, Alternator and main wiring harness to the on board computers. Still had a negative draw...this was sending a command to the PCM for the alternator to charge at maximum capacity (which the original alternator was more than the system could handle and fried the OCM causing the catastrophic failure).
Service Tech at that point was very frustrated. He never told me if he was frustrated with Ford or not, but I know he took it upon himself to start at the fuse box under the hood and started testing every circuit. He found a negative draw through the fuse box, but not an individual circuit (which is VERY strange and difficult for me to understand, but I have seen some unexplainable things in electronics). He ordered a completely new fuse box and replaced it. Truck instantly ran perfect and alternator performed as it should.
I picked it up today and put 150 miles on it already. We just got home to be honest. Beat the snot out of it too. Ford covered everything except the alternator. I didn't argue it. The alternator was covered under my extended warranty from United Car Care. I paid the deductible of $250 (a one time lifetime deductible for all future purchases) and they covered it. Dealer took care of all of the payment BS. I was very happy obviously.
Thanks to Brad and Scott at VandenBrook Ford for taking care of my truck. I appreciate it very much. I also appreciate the kind words and support in this thread. I really needed the support as I really missed my truck. Trip to South Dakota to go wheeling t-minus 6 days. I pumped again!!!

Secondly, WTH??? YOU had to pay your deductible because something wasn't covered by Ford? That's wrong on so many levels, because none of this is your fault. It sounds like the dealer replaced the alternator without approval from Ford, and because you had an extended warranty they had an easy way to get paid rather than having to eat the cost of the repair. That just ain't right; this whole fiasco should have been covered under warranty. And because FoMoCo can't blame this on someone else I'm pretty confident that the dealer is to blame here.
