I'e been looking at the route the fuel has to travel. What would happen if I took the guts to the FPR out? Could I then get a reading from the fuel pump of what it's doing? What should the pressure be on an unregulated pump?
Can't be certian where the fuel in the valley came from. Didn't think I lost that much doing pressure checks. Not real sure. Can't find anything while running engine.
I keep studying this thing and I think I've got a pretty good picture of how all of this works. I'm thinking the pump just went out. Might be time to check the warranty on this thing.
I called the parts store and I've either got a 90 day warranty or 1 year warranty, depending on brand. They are trying to tell me that is only a primer pump and there is a seperate injector pump somewheres. The only other pump I see looks like the high pressure oil pump. Is there another fuel pump?
Didn't think so. Don't see were you need it with those electronic injectors. Feel pretty sure I blew the pump. Did find out I've got 1 year warranty. Good thing, I was about 2 weeks past 90 days. Got my work cut out for me.
When I put the new pump in do you think I should try to boost the pressure again or do you think that was a bad pump anyway and it went out under the higher pressure? It's possible when that spring got hung up that the FRP didn't open causing it to build too much pressure.
Forgot to tell you. Called Ford about an injection pump. Oh, yea, it's got one, $798 bucks please. Wish smeone would put their finger on it then. Wonder what engine he looked up. Not what I told him to.
You can not remove the guts from the fpr as its a regulated return system meaning the fpr is on the end of the system. If you remove the guts it will not build any pressure
I would guess you just blew a hose, rather than blowing the pump. Especially with 75PSI. That's more than you want, but not really that much out of the range. 70 would have been runnable, so I doubt that 75 blew the pump. And those guys at the Ford garage are idiots. If your truck is a Powestroke it DOES NOT have an injection pump. It has a fuel pump and a high pressure oil pump (HPOP).
Take a very close look at all the rubber fuel lines, especially the one that leads from the bottom of the fuel pump to the bottom of the fuel bowl. I am thinking you may have blown one of those hoses, or just blew it off the fitting. If you do indeed end up installing a new pump, I would take the BB out of the FPR until you see what kind of fuel pressure readings you're getting. Then if i t is still low, reinstall the BB. But first I would really look over those hoses.
When I saw the fuel in the valley one of the first things I checked was the hoses. The need replacing and new ones are coming but nothing leaking. I got the pump out and still didn't find anything on the hoses. Let me go across town and argue with the man at the parts store it's only got one pump some more.
Think I'll go ahead and tear the fuel bowl down and let it soak. Maybe I can get it back together tomorrow afternoon. Anything I need to know before I tear it apart. Which spray cleaner should I use?
