The trans is a 4r70w. computer controlled (no TV cable). The Throttle Body is normally attached to an EGR elbow and points forward. I removed the elbow because I removed EGR from the tune (EGR is fully external on the 2000 Explorer), and with the elbow the oil filler tube on my new valve covers blocked the TB and air intake.
I bought the Sanderson Headers made for the P heads, so they clear the plugs ok. A little tight on #8 because of the dipstick mounting.
All of the intake and the accessory brackets are powdercoated wrinkle black to match the valve covers. EGR Elbow (deleted)
I am going to have to fabricate a new throttle linkage bracket because the throttle used to attach to the EGR elbow, but that shouldn't be too tough. I'll just use the old bracket to determine the geometry.
I was overwhelmed at first trying to figure out every variable to make this work. I feel like I'm on the downhill slide now! I never considered swapping to a carb! I think, like me, you are looking forward to the benefits of EFI. It has taken a lot of time and money to get here though. New harness, new sensors (ALL!), new accessories (A/C Comp, Alt, PS pump, Idler), timing set, new water pump, coils, plug wires, high stall torque converter, Trans rebuild parts, new full gasket set for the engine, ECM tune, and on, and on, and on! Definitely not for the faint of heart!
I am looking forward to seeing your finished product. Knowing what I know now, I would have dieted a stock harness like you are doing. I think overall it would have been cleaner. Again, good luck!
Hi All!
Just stopped in to make myself known. Still have the truck.
Still have plans. Been doing other projects. House stuff. Fishing, kayaking, kitchen remodeling...oh...1998 Grand Cherokee lifted big tires...but I'm about ready to get busy again! Hope all is well!
I have two projects that have been sitting, lack of money or lack of money and time. This year I vow to get one done or at least do some substantial work on it.
Jeff, I'd just read this complete thread, my '51 has been sitting in the garage for 3 years now, sometimes I think of selling it, after reading this thread I'll start her project this weekend. Thanks for all the words and photos and all the love and kindness you pass through this. Salute from Brazil.
Hello All!
I have not been on here for a long time. I have been busy with other stuff! Mostly holding down my oversized chair...I have recently found a diet of ambition. Trying to push through the dreaded wiring.
Refresher: EEC IV MAF along with the 21 circuit speedway harness. I keep saying it's gotta run this year!
That's still the goal after many years! The wife tells me to sell it...I keep telling her NEGATIVE! This project keeps me grounded. I owe nothing financially on the truck. It's mine. I hope to hear it run before Spring, but who knows?
I just renewed my 3 year subscription, so I'm still kickin'
Enjoy the day!
