Spring is almost here March BS thread!
Jake .. from the sound of it, you could have potentially had 2 "spring breaks" ... Glad you got it fixed (if at least temporarily).
The pile-o-plastic is going in at 4 today. I'm pretty sure it's something internal now. When the HPOP failed on the truck, I don't think I was going through that much oil. And that was VERY noticeable on the ground. It's clear that the car was leaking from the valve cover gasket, but not enough to make a huge mess.
Good luck today Dave.
Hope you get some work soon Mike! I know how frustrating it can be not to have work. I got to go to work, get paid my full salary and literally sit there for 6 months.
What's on tap for everyone else today?
on a side note, having air is awesome. makes things go apart and together so much faster.
Doing well. Tired. Lots to do .. lots of ambition ... no energy. Could have something to do with going to bed at 11pm CST and getting up at 5am CDT for an hour to do some work.
Did some sanding on some shelves this afternoon. I've got some wood shevles for a microwave stand. I can't find a stain that matches the kitchen, so I may end up just painting the dumb thing. The things we do to save a buck...
How was your day?

sherwin-williams should be able to match the stain for you

Ditch the pile of plastic and get an escort for the wifey. Seriously, they are pretty reliable plus cheap and easy to work on (I did a head gasket with a $15 walmart toolset, and a $10 set of deepwells in a parking lot when I was in college).

Sounds like it is hard to plan anything when you don't know the time you are going to work. Almost time to get that boat out Dale! With these temps this week it is gonna feel like a guy should be on the lake.

not to start spending your money before you figure out what's wrong with the plastic pile, but...
My experiece with that generation escort as follows:
purchased with 91k. did cv alxe. waterpump (and I being 20 tried to baby it unsuccessfully overheated it and warped the head). and timing belt.
Other than that I didn't do any maintenance besides oil changes. The car went to heaven with 160k when I T-boned a caravan at 50-55. Had to climb out the window, but the cockpit was entirely intacked.
Mike .. you posted some links a while back on where to get parts. Can you point me to those again and let me know what parts/kits I need to get for a rebuild?
It's either the OD or Torque Converter as the major problem. If I drive w/o overdrive, I can go forever without the computer detecting a slilp.

For those that aren't on Facebook (cough cough Troy and Jay cough cough) Saturday night I noticed one of my leaf springs was cracked on my drivers side. I had that happen once last spring/summer too, except this one was sticking out from the rest of the springs. No one was open at this time and I couldn't wait around so I weighed my options. My main worry was that the cracked piece could jut out enough to make contact with my tire and wreck a pretty much new tire. I thought about just pulling the piece out and having that spring-less void there but I kinda figured it'd do more harm or put more wear on the rest of the springs. I decided to keep the spring piece in the spring pack and wrapped two hose clamps around the springs. I told my dad my plan and he looked a bit worried. He didn't think it would hold but he let me do it anyways. I figured If the clamps were snug, but not really tight I'd be alright as that would allow the springs to flex and do what they were supposed to do. Well, 280 miles later, the clamps held and I made it to Ely. Chalk that up as another use for a hose clamp.
Now I'm trying to decide whether I just buy a new set of springs or if I buy a pulled/used set. Any thoughts, or is it a horse a piece?
