Do I need to let the truck idle after towing on these new trucks ??
Just wondering if I should use the "remote start/auto shutdown" (as I call it, not sure what to call it).... and can I adjust the time and if I can how do I do it ??
I would assume it would be like adjusting the remote start time .... if I can adjust that ??
Right now it I can pull in, put it into remote start mode, turn and pull the key out, walk away with it running and then it shuts off after 10 minutes....
Seems like 10 minutes is a long time but not sure if I can or should try to adjust this time....
You can adjust the time down to 5 min. I think that is under settings in the dash lcd.
Is 5 minutes long enough to let it idle before letting it shut itself off ??
So many options and things you can adjust and do on this truck....
I'll have to go out and mess with it and see what I can find.
I didn't even know these trucks had an "auto shutdown" or "cool down" (not sure what to call it) so many different things on this truck.
Although I could have missed it in the manual. Seems like I learn something new everytime I read the manuals.
Ok, I have the remote start but can't find the auto cool down option or settings anywhere. I RTFM but can't locate the instructions. Am I missing something or just being a Mr. Dumass?
Not all trucks have the auto shutdown.
Only certain states, such as CA, require this feature.
Unless you ordered it as an option in a state that does allow you to idle, then the feature isn't installed.
If you have the remote start, then you do have a timeout option for that feature but that only works if you started with the remote start button and didn't drive anywhere.

Any idea if Utah is one of those states? I tried it this morning and it actually works on my truck. I had no idea....after almost 1 full year.
the auto shutdown / cool down that I am using is just a matter of putting the truck back into remote start mode, without shutting it off, after I get to where I need to be.
OR say you want to run into a store and get something but don't want to shut it off and don't want to leave the keys in it.
This thread was started to ask about how long I should let the truck run to cool down.
See this thread for how to engage it and the discussion of it : https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ote-start.html
See my post (#11) for how I engage the remote start after I get where I am going without shutting it off.
I had installed an EGT gauge on my 6.0 to monitor exhaust temps for cooldown, but I don't see/read about anybody installing those on the 6.7.
My 6.0 would usually cool down to a safe temp in 15 to 30 seconds so I've been waiting about the same amount of time with my 6.7, especially after towing. Does the 6.7 turbo not require as much cool down time?

I'm unsure which states and I couldn't find any info from Ford.
If you have the RVAS (reverse vehicle aid sensors) you don't have the engine idle shutdown feature (this is according to the 2011 order guide and Ford's website for the 2012's).
Why these two things conflict is beyond me.
If you don't have the RVAS, idle your truck and see if it shuts off.
Default with parking brake engaged is 5 minutes.
Default with parking brake released is 15 minutes.
The above has nothing to do with remote start.
EIS only available with the 6.7L (per order guide/online).
This isn't a positive "feature" IMO.

Odd for sure. I have the RVAS and camera (ultimate package with Nav). It works for me. I agree, the best use for this feature is brief stops where you don't want to shut down and restart, but also don't want to leave your keys in the ignition And doors unlocked.
