The camper thread! Pulling, using, equipment, maintenance!
I do have the 'bent pin' that I use all the time in mine. I never thought much about the bent part riding the hole and wallowing it out. But what I always do when I put the pin in is slide it all the way over till the clip pin rest against the side of the receiver tube and then turn the 'main pin' so that the 'clip pin' slips into the slot between the safety chain slots and the receiver tube itself. That way the whole pin stays right where I put it and doesn't walk back and forth or around.
I would probably have to get a pic to show it better.
Coming from Canada I have never camped in the USA and mostly Camp at Provincial Parks here
Any Advice or suggestions would be great.
How far in advance can I book a site?
Thanks
...and not the straight "barbell" type hitch pin.
Since I use the Strattec locking hitch pin....
....which uses the ignition key of your vehicle to lock and unlock, and it's like the "bent" pin pictured above, I do what is recommended for the "bent" pin users and install a hose clamp on the bent end to keep the elbow from elongating the hole on the hitch.

I had a little deformation of the hitch pin hole on one side when I bought my EX, after reading about the hose clamp mod here I added one and have not seen any additional wear to the hole since.
lol I figured it would be a hard thing to explain. However unfortunately it will be awhile till I have the x out for pics again.
I'm writing, specifically, because I plan on doing some towing this coming summer, once the rains stop up here in the PNW and with a trailer that I will be renting from the Fort Lewis MWR.
My truck is a 2005 Limited 4x4 Powerstroke, and it's equipped from the factory with a hitch, 4-pin, and 7-pin connectors. As far as I can tell, the only thing I'm lacking is a trailer brake controller. I kind of want to stay OEM, as much as possible.
As long as I have the connectors in the back, my understanding is that the OEM unit is pretty much plug-and-play, right? What do they look like installed? Where does it install? Does the OEM unit come with the required harness to connect it to my vehicle, or is this something that I will need to provide?
Thanks for the input, everyone! I'm looking forward to taking the Excursion over the hills with a trailer and seeing what she's capable of!
Several of us use a Prodigy P3 brake controller and feel it's about the best bang for the buck.

I have had a few different controllers and tow all sorts of trailers all over tarnation.
I feel the P3 is not only "the best bang for the buck" but the unit itself I feel is one of the best you can get not even thinking about the cash.
I am glad the X had the P3 from the PO installed yet or I might have just pulled the one from old truck and continued on with an 'ok' controller.
The prodigy p3 is probably the best controller you can get.
Do you have the "boost" feature on?
There are 3 stages of boost and even with the train in my sig I only use boost 2.
