Not to wax too philosophical or with nostalgic most of us left "unsupervised" seemed to intrinsically know right from wrong and tended to act accordingly. Sure we got out of line on occasion but nothing too severe or malicious. During my years before 16 or so I just could NOT imagine the sort of BS kids today have to deal with---not sure I'd be capable of withstanding it even at my age now.
Local rag has had their home delivery subscribers cut in half in the last 5 years. It probably won't be long before they're out of business.
We moved about 3.5 years ago, going only about 4 miles. Still in the county and the coverage area for the local rag. I'd long subscribed to it, mostly for the local sports and puzzles pages. When the renewal bill got to the house they had raised the subscription price $200/year. No thanks. I let it lapse and have never looked back. They do send "we want you back" notices from time to time, and some seemingly attractive rates. But the paper has been bought out by one of the big conglomerates, has almost no local or investigative reporting, and is 90% the same stories you can get online. Their lack of local stories is troubling. They had backed a local city commissioner since he got into politics. The guy and his business partner are now in jail after a multi-year corruption investigation by the FBI. The paper has yet to offer a mea culpa over their continued defense of the guy despite the allegations that were out there, or an apology once he was convicted. I'd rather read real news than their whitewash of a crook.
Lawyers should never ask a Georgia grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer.
In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand.
He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know me?' She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you'll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. “Yes, I know you”.
The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?'
She again replied, 'Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.'
The defense attorney nearly died.
The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said,
'If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you both to the electric chair”.
U know if you could travel at the speed of light along side of something else traveling the speed of light thinking you could observe it, you would not know WTF's going on.
I have no idea what that means but it sounds 'bout right!
U know if you could travel at the speed of light along side of something else traveling the speed of light thinking you could observe it, you would not know WTF's going on.
Actually you would see it just fine because relative to you it's not moving, of course by the time you "see" it it's no longer where you saw it.
