not like it really matters, but i pulled the diff and axles, painted up the cover. taking a breather right now before i weld it up. hope i don't eff it up. here's some pics because they are fun and require no reading, plus they prove that for once i actually worked on my truck
p.s. i need a new grinder that's what i get for buying cheap chinese crap on sale. i welded a hitch extension to my welding table in a drunken haze a while back to practice on. instead of just tacking it in place i welded the **** out of it and basically just killed my grinder trying to get it off the table. booze and welders=win!
Wrap and shove wet rags around everything you can to keep splatter and pitting out/off of everything you can.
thanks for the tip, as i don't have any of the welder paper or gel crap that i recall using in h/s shop.
just burned a couple rods in to start, so now there's no going back. pretty sure kris gave me good enough info that if it fails it will be due to crappy welding, not anything to do with improper heating/cooling of the metal. beer time
No no good choice as long as you chip it out good between passes.
I've used hard wire with argon gas and no slag with good success too cranked hot and fast like a spray transfer mode.
What I like about stick is it burns out all the oil and crap left behind even after cleaning.
Put it this way my hydro assist fittings in my steering box they leaked after I ran a hard wire pass but after a little 3/32 7018 cap over that no problems.
probably half way or better through with it. was grilling/drinking/shucking corn while doing it so i'm behind.
kind of pissed about the painted diff cover. it looks like hell because of the humidity. hopefully after a day or so it cures right and get a shine, cause right now it looks like flat enamel house paint
i'm a beast! i'm welding everything to everything! even plastic to pewter. i has teh skills
seriously though, if it's metal, it's hugging other metal in a very gay way.
crappy pics of crappy welding ftw!
chipping slag is the only real pain in the ***. tight spaces. decided i'm also ditching the bed for sure. going to run tool boxes, trailer lights and mud flaps until i start getting metal for a chase truck-ish style flatbed. light pic just cause. $6 woooooo!!!!
