Ken Block’s Insane 1977 Ford F-150 Hoonitruck Dissected
Take a deep dive into all the incredible details that make this the wildest F-150 ever built.
Ford trucks of the ’70s are pretty popular around these parts. And we’ve seen just about every kind of Dentside F-150 you can imagine. From low riders to Highboys to big-motored show trucks. But we’ve never, and we mean never, seen anything like Ken Block‘s “Hoonitruck” – a 1977 Ford F-150 built to, well, hoon.
Block, a pro rally driver, co-founder of Vans shoes, founder of Hoonigans, and star of the wildly popular Gymkhana web series, also happens to be a big Ford guy. His latest (and greatest) stunt clip, Gymkhana 10, just came out. And though it features a host of his incredible machines, we’re obviously most interested in his 914 hp, all-wheel drive, vintage Ford F-150.

Lucky for us, this amazing pickup is the subject of this fascinating Build Biology video from TheHoonigans YouTube channel. Right off the bat, Block is asked which is better. This Ford F-150, or the Hoonicorn, his equally insane 1965 Mustang build?

“We took everything that we learned from building and running the Hoonicorn to make this thing way better than the Hoonicorn,”
he says. “This thing doesn’t drive like the Hoonicorn. But the way it’s put together is so unique and so much better for us to do Gymkhana demos. In that way it is actually one of the more unique things that we’ve ever done.”

Interestingly enough, Block didn’t just choose a 1977 Ford F-150 randomly, either. “I picked this truck because I grew up in a Ford family,” he says. “That was the truck my dad had when I was a teenager, all the way until I was 17 or 18. I learned how to drive in that truck. I just always loved that shape. It really had something special to do with my childhood. And also it just reminds me of my dad, who passed away about 25 years ago. It was something he really loved.”
As fascinating as this truck’s reason for existing is, the components it’s built from are equally interesting. Like the engine, which is an early Ford GT development prototype piece with Le Mans ties. Or the custom Ford-developed intake manifold that was 3D-printed. Be sure and scope out all the details that make the Hoonitruck so great. And then watch it all in action in Gymkhana 10 above!
