Blown 2015 Ford F-150 Runs Mid-11s: Truckin’ Fast Wednesday

By -

Whipple supercharger helps this 5.0-liter-powered F-150 run a best time of 11.47 at 120 miles per hour.

This week’s Truckin’ Fast Wednesday video comes to us from the Palm Beach Dyno YouTube channel and it features a 2015 Ford F-150 SuperCrew pickup working out at Palm Beach International Raceway. With the 5.0-liter V8, this half-ton truck was quick in stock form, but with the addition of a forced induction setup and a good 93-octane tune, this pickup will hang with most of the stock performance cars sold in the United States.

The Machine

The truck in action in the video above is a 2015 Ford F-150 XLT Sport SuperCrew powered by the 5.0-liter V8 engine. It is unclear whether or not this truck has four-wheel-drive, as it does rear-drive burnouts. At the same time, it launches cleanly enough that it is possible that this truck is heating up the rear tires while relying on all four for the hard launch. It also has a set of drag radial tires for improved grip, allowing the F-150 to make the most of the available power, but for the most part, this Ford truck looks fairly stock around the outside.

In any case, the 5.0-liter V8 has been fitted with a 2.9-liter Whipple Gen 2 supercharger and a 93-octane pump gas tune from Palm Beach Dyno. That blower likely lifts the output of the V8 up into the 600+horsepower range, allowing the big pickup to cover the quarter mile in the 11-second range.

Track Passes

The video above shows the 2015 Ford F-150 making three runs down the drag strip. We don’t get much of a look at the vehicles in the other lane or their times, but we get to see this half-ton pickup do its thing.

On the first run, the blue XLT Sport stops the timers with an 11.654 at 119.54 miles per hour and on the second run, the F-150 got quicker, running an 11.635 at 119.12. As night fell and temperatures dropped, this Ford pickup made one more run in the cool winter air and got a whole lot quicker and faster.

On the final run of the video, this Whipple-blown F-150 runs an 11.472 at 120.69 miles per hour, and that is one truckin’ fast pickup.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
