Here is some pic's of my 5000 temp color HID's in my 05 headlights.
The cutoff is better than many reflector beam headlights but NO WHERE near what a projector beam headlight is. The stray light that is above the cutoff AND the fact that HIDs are more than 4 times brighter than halogens are what blind other drivers.
aftermarket 05 look without cutting header panel use Philips Xtreme Power headlights.
If i wanted to use HID's: Stock/oem 05 headlights, cut header panel for install, use Bi-XENON HID KIT. I would want to stay around 4300k-8000k in either 35w/55w
Sound right? it is 4am in the morning and i been going to internal and external links reading and have read all 8 pages 3 times to make sure i understand what everyone is saying.
If you do the 05 conversion you have to also get a pigtail to convert your 9007 plug to the 05 style bulb, Then get a HID kit for that bulb I think it's a 9008 bulb.

understood. Let me back up and share some light on this from my prespective. What I know about HID vs Halogen bulbs I have learned from this topic and this topic alone. Everything vehicle I have owned to this point I have never seen the title on. So cutting a header panel was out of the question. So this talk about reflectors and projectors is all greek to me.
I like the look of the 05 headlight for my 2000. It will probley be the first mod I do to my x. I just want to make sure if I want to use HID i go with the right assembly instead of buying an aftermarket housing then changing that out for the OEM housing because the oem works better with the HID. I can use the Halogen bulb in either/or.

Reason: late night rambling
This is a pic of the 05 Looking light that is in that link.
No cutting use the same 9007 bulb. In fact the headlight comes with a new Halogen bulb. Just take out the factory headlight and turnsignal and bolt this one in. Yes you can use Halogen in both the 05 looking light and 05 conversion light. The 2005 headlight use a different bulb tho (9008) not the 9007. so you must get a short wire harness to convert the factory 9007 socket to the 9008. This 05 set comes with the pigtail. But This is the one you have to cut the header panel behind the headlight
Personally I don't like the projector perfect cut off. Load one more person in the back seat and that cutoff is now above the mirrors of the car ahead of you blinding them with 100% of the HID output. Same with going over bumps and stuff, I hate when a car behind me is bouncing along constantly "flashing me". I always think someone is flashing their lights at me because there is a problem or something.
Same in reverse for the driver of the car. Can't see anything above the cutoff line so if you have your lights aimed even a little to low you can't see whats down the road ahead of you. I have ridden in these cars and noticed you can't even see pedestrians on the road ahead of you because they aren't lit up, only their shoes are lit up and if they aren't reflective you would never know the person is there. The same goes for deer, bears, moose, etc. Also opposite deal with going over bumps while being in the car with projectors, going over bumps you think to yourself "I can see, I can't see, I can see, I can't see."
I'd rather blind a few people with little cars and see everything rather than blind everyone on bumpy roads or if I have a person in the back seat and NOT see that kid riding his bike on the side of the road.
now if i could get a set of HID interior lights after wasting the money on them led junk interior lights, would be nice to get some interior brighter then the old school bulbs.

my question is that if I go from my stock 00-01' headlights to the 02-03' for the clearer lens and to rid the awful amber lower piece, what would the suggestion be for bulbs or just switching entirely for the hid movement. plus what would the cost be to go hid.
If you are just putting in bulbs, go with the Sylvania xtravision 9007's. The HID kit that I posted pics/video of in this thread cost $56.99 delivered and that included the bulbs. Thats not really too much more than what you will pay for Sylvania's which are $25-$35 or so depending on where you get em and if you have to pay shipping.
