my question is that if I go from my stock 00-01' headlights to the 02-03' for the clearer lens and to rid the awful amber lower piece, what would the suggestion be for bulbs or just switching entirely for the hid movement. plus what would the cost be to go hid.
Vtown, a non-blue tinted bulb such as the Sylvania xtravisions are what you need to get if you're not interested in HIDs. Stay away from the Sylvania silverstars and ultras as these are blue-tinted.
The ideal non-HID setup would be to get some upgraded harnesses and some philips xtreme vision bulbs or similar. The philips are arguably the best 9007 bulbs on the market however.
yea archtaan there wouldn't be much of a difference in the cost then or at least not so bad to sway me one way or the other, only thing is then the hid, I've read a lot on this thread and the other and got to where I was reading so much I might have been confused.
What would I need to do to have the hid put in aimed correctly?
Would HID fit in the factory 02-03' headlamp and reflect properly or do you need to replace that with some aftermarket?
Aiming the headlights is very easy, you are basically adjusting them down to reduce as much possible glare for other drivers as possible. Can be done at home with hand tools. Your current lamps should work fine. I have factory lamps in my Excursion and you can see the results. Its a pretty simple install.

Will HIDs reflect properly in stock housings?...no, they won't. But it will be "good enough". If you're okay with that, get the HIDs. As arch pointed out, the kit he got runs about the same as what those philips xtreme visions cost. If the thought of running bulbs in housings designed for a completely different style of bulb bothers you like it does me, stick with the halogens.
Aort is pretty much correct. The best option would be to get projector headlights, but they will cost you. I just dropped $500 on a set of 2008 projector housings for my Excursion. Don't cheap out if you go with projectors btw, get a quality kit for the best and safest results.
I forget the brand halogens I had in my 96 but they were near pure white and very bright! I do remember they were 100W high beams though, that helped allot!
On my 96 I had the 100W headlights and 100W driving lights that came on with the high beams. Everyone that rode with me always commented on how nice and bright it was.
Thinking about it now I think I may still have the boxes from the bulbs in the shop somewhere. I will see if I can find them.
those look great! probably helps that you have the clear lenses tho, as i got the stock 00 lenses. wish i could find a deal on some clear oem ones, i have one i got from alaskanex but i still need the other side.
I have even seen some on Amazon if you want to go that route. That CandlePower place however could probably help you more than Amazon can with any lighting question you may have.
There is also the newer Xtreme Visions but I am not certain whether they offer them in the 9007 size we need. If I find anything, I will post it.
