Yes to do the 05 conversion you need to get the pigtail for the 05 bulbs. I got mine from Riffraff the forum sponsor. Sorry I forgot to list that. Thanks for bringing that up
Output with a clear headlight was about the same to me. As for "Did you get the same bulbs as before with the halogen next to the HID? " Not sure what your asking? in the 2000 factory light I used the 9007 bulb
if people just want a cheap lighting upgrade I have used the sylvania ultra stars/day stars etc (they have changed the name as they upgrade them) in all my vehicles and they just flat out work. They give you a wider pattern to light up the shoulder better, which is important in deer country, and they are much brighter. They are also DOT legal, so no "coupons" from men wearing funny hats. The only caveat is that they come with a 1 year warranty and I've exchanged a few under the warranty. You end up changing them out every year. As the sylvania rep told me, just like a high performance race engine that requires more frequent rebuilds, the lights are on the cutting edge and sacrifice longevity for output.

I have those Sylvania Ultra in my F-250 & Excursion as well. I realy can tell the difference in them over the stock lighting. Interesting about your comments on replacing them under warranty. I have had the same set in my F-250 for almost 5 years. No problems yet, been in the Excursion for only about 6 months so far. One thing for sure is that I had the frosted lights on my Excursion and any upgrade mentioned here is a 200% improvement of those lights.
About the SilverStars...the thread that bigwhitetruck posted says this:
"5. How can I upgrade my lighting without buying HID?
First of all, not with coated bulbs. Many HID-look bulbs use blue coatings that actually reduce output. Some halogen bulbs are effective in producing more light than stock systems. Examples are Osram Silverstars (not Sylvania Silverstars, which are coated) Philips hi-visibility, and Hella +50.
Here is more: "Wait a Minute, Earlier You Said Silver Star Bulbs Have Blue Glass!
It's a name game: Osram, the well-established German lampmaker, sells a line of automotive bulbs they call "Silver Star". These are Osram's top-of-the-range headlamp bulbs, equivalent to Narva RangePower+50, GE Night Hawk, Philips VisionPlus, and Tungsram Megalight Premium. They produce the maximum legal amount of light while staying within legal power consumption limits. They have colorless clear glass.
Osram bought the well-established American lampmaker Sylvania in the early 1990s, so Osram is now Sylvania's parent company. Sylvania also sells a line of automotive bulbs they call "Silver Star", but it's not the same product. The Sylvania Silver Stars have blue glass. Light output is of legal levels, but as with all blue-filtered bulbs, you do not get more light from them. The Sylvania SilverStar bulbs have a very short lifetime, because the filament is overdriven to get a legal amount of light despite the blue glass.
To get the best possible seeing performance at night, don't choose extra-white bulbs."
bigwhitetruck, thank you for the awesome thread link! That provided many truths with just five minutes of reading. I hope the others on here take the time to read it as well.
Yep, I've never used the blue ones, mine look like the ones in the orange pack you mentioned. I don't go for "HID look," I go for lights that work, and those ones in the orange package work.
The threads you have linked all talk about the blue glass bulbs. The ultras, as you can see from that pic above, don't use blue glass. The one guy in the thread you posted says he prefers the silverstar ultras to the "OSRAM silverstars" because they burn out too fast. So there you go.
