We're in Rexburg, Idaho.

Yes, it just lost power, like the key turned off.

This thread sounds JUST LIKE our problem:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-shut-off.html

What's a WIF light? WTS light does come on and go off. I'm not sure how the dummy lights are supposed to look normally, but they seem normal to me.

Another thing: When we start up, there is a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust. I think it's white smoke. A lot of it.

Where are those 3 extra qts of oil?

Riffraff Diesel can get you the good one (BLACK in color) as to they are hard to find anymore. You could just get a local auto parts one just to test and see if it runs any better.

My truck would turn over and turn over but wouldnt get fuel and wouldnt start. New CPS and BOOM starts instant.

Oh and just so you know, try not to use starting fluid unless its a DIRE emergency and in that case only use a LITTLE. Ether is NOT good for your diesel engine.
What Brent says if your truck is where you can work on it the CPS is an easy part to change. You only need a 10mm wrench. Even if you have to take a cab to get one it is a lot cheaper than what the dealer will charge you.
Best of luck.

When we blew diesel fuel, the cover broke off somewhere. Now there are only the 2 poles and a bit of plastic ring. Heh.

What does this plug do?

Good point. And the dealer may have our truck, but they don't know it yet, and they don't have the key.
Only a ford CPS, right?

That plug is for the HPOP reservoir. That's where the 3 quarts of oil are. You just need to be sure it is full.

Camshaft position sensor, fuel pressure and the glow plugs are in question.

CPS. I would install a new cps just to eliminate it as a possibility. Low cost.

Fuel pressure. I doubt the truck has a fuel pressure gauge. I would drain the fuel from the bowl then cycle the ignition switch to see if fuel quickly refills the bowl. If it is a slow fill, the in-tank screens likely are clogging.

Glow plugs. Will not start on its own but will with starting fluid, glow plug/wiring issues.

EDIT: I see others giving good guidance while i am writing.
Checking the oil level in the HPOP is smart.
BTW I replaced my cps from Autozone about a year before Ford admitted/acknowledge cps failures and announced the recall.

I'll post a picture of our engine in a minute.

Maybe we should rent a car.
What about cleaning those screens I read about in other threads, or the IPR sensor?

David N., missed your post. Yeah, I really think it's a fuel delivery problem.

Now I'm worried, because farm guy who sprayed some ether into our intake sprayed a lot in there. I tried to get him to stop, but I'm a girl.

I didn't mention, a farm guy helped us, and we're in his driveway. The tow co. wanted to charge us $800 to get us and the rv some place. Farm guy said, no way.

If you are on the road just have the dealer take care of it. You are just going to be guessing and throwing parts at it. Stop using the starter fluid unless you want to buy a new engine.

I would check to see if delivering the fuel to your bowl is a problem first.

For your husband getting to work You might need a rent a car or if he has a friend near by that works there also etc..

Don't worry, you will have it fixed. The more info you provide, the more tests we have you do, the more gets figured out etc!

The least amount the dealership robs you the happier we ALL are :-)

I was a computer tech in my last life, and have some faith in troubleshooting. Some.

Pics of the engine compartment the morning after diesel blew out, back in Canada. I see where the HPOP reservoir is, and the fuel filter. The glow plug is on top. That's about all I know.

OT I got stuck in Rexburg last summer. We were on our way to Cabin Creek, MT and my wife saw a sign for Bear Country. That day was finished. Ended up at a camp ground in St. Anthony getting eaten alive by mosquitos.
