Help?? F-350 Crew Cab,7.3L Powerstroke Unexplainable Shut Off
Please help me ???
Thank you for reading, thinking my problem and offering any idea's or Solutions.
I took my truck to my shop for an Oil and filter change, fuel filter changes
Truck ran great- Like normal
Drove truck approx 80 miles - Normal Sunday driving
Everything Great
While on drive home - Truck simply shut off with-out warning??
Towed truck home - It still wouldn't crank up
Next Day- I tried cranking truck up
It cranked right up like always and with-out any delays??
Drove truck home
Monday - Went around to shop
Ask about a vapor lock maybe?
Pulled fuel filter and had plenty of fuel and re-seated filter
Ran great
Tuesday - Went to Doctor for visits
Ran great
Went to girlfriend office for lunch
En-route- Truck shut-off again and with-out warning?
This time in front a a friends heavy duty truck repair shop
Mechanic ran diagnostic test
Result came back- overhead cam shaft sensor
Installed new sensor
Next morning -
Truck cranked right up like normal
But after it warmed up
Shut off with-out warning
Ran new diagnostic test
Results came back - temp sensor
Again after warmed up - shut off with warning
Ran another diagnostic test
Results were - Oil Pressure Sensor
Crank right up - like always
truck ran for 3 hours - no problems- like always
Drove truck around for over 100 miles
No problems
Then went 8 miles up-town
Again - simply shut off again and with-out warning AGAIN ??
This time diagnostic test showed only 192.5 psi of Oil pressure when warm?
In the mornings or when truck has been sitting- upwards of 600 psi Oil pressure?
What in the world could be causing this problem??
Mech is suggesting :
Maybe high -side Oil pump might be bad?
Maybe the "O" rings around injectors
Maybe Oil injector themselves might be bad?

Not sure what you mean by "over head cam sensor" but that might be the CPS. If you didn't replace it with one from Ford or International it might be bad. The parts store CPS' have a sketchy reliability history. Where are you located? If you're local to me I'd be glad to hook your truck up to my AutoEnginuity scan tool and see if we can shake anything out.

SuperDuty,
I wish I was close to you. I would sure take it to you. I am just south of Charleston,SC.
I just called shop- It was the CPS sensor the 1st thing they replaced
Also I found out that he bought that part from Dixie Auto Parts. I am so mad.
I thought all parts were from Ford
Heck - While I was at 2 shop- BTW same shop that replaced all sensors. But he didnt have time to go and get parts. Then I found out he was using Dixie Auot- I told Jack- No I only use Ford Parts- It came with Form Parts and will die with only Ford Parts
I will get CPS from Ford today.
Darn - Sure wish you were close to Charleston,SC.

My vote is a loose connection at the tin nut.

Go to Ford and buy a CPS from them. Should cost you around $25. Then grab a 10mm socket and just change it yourself. Instructions are here : Welcome to guzzle's CPS R&R Web Page<
Then you might ask your friendly shop if you can have all your old sensors back just in case there are other issues. The aftermarket CPS has a reputation of causing too many problems. It's best to stay with Ford (or International) when buying a CPS.
Not sure what to make of the other tests. The truck will not run with 192 psi of high pressure oil, so was this diagnosis done while cranking during a no start condition? Either way, it sounds like they enjoy throwing your money at the problem in hopes of finding the fix.

If you can and have a day or so order a black CPS from Diesel o-rings http://www.dieselorings.com/index.ph...cat=23&group=6 or Clay at RiffRaff Diesel, heres the link http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/mm5/me...731-OEM-SENSOR The black ones are International and their very good CPS's and are in very short supply, the best.

I am so Thankful for the comments and suggestions..
Yesterday afternoon:
I called local Ford Dealer and had them run a new FORD CPS to shop
I will also look into the loose tin nut on the ICP and loose connections
I agree if all fails go next to Injector Pressure sensor
Also YES- I believe the 2nd shop just threw money at the problem..
Err...
Thanks to all and will keep everyone posted..
