Thanks for everyone chiming in to help out Pansen.

Pansen, we all feel for you and your family. It seems bad now, but this will get fixed and you will look back and say dozens of people that I don't know and they don't know me....cared.... and tried to help for 100s of miles away. You may not think so now, but you are in a better 'spot' than some 'members' have found themselves in. 'Way out' in the middle of Gods Creation and....alone (I know that you are a lady) and (as a man) 'sitting' in my truck (alone) I do this and what does my wife do?...

So what do 'we' do now? You have scanned through a lot of threads...
The Glow Plug Regulator is a side show problem and can be changed out. (if it is bad, it may not be)

It looks as if almost no one thinks that the 'bad injector' would cause a no start or shut the truck down when it was running.... it is something else.

"Clay, from RiffRaff", may have some suggestions as I know he has helped many people out as Kwikkordead have.

I wish you well and when you (we) get this fixed, remember to stop back to Forum from time to time. For what you are going through now will help someone in the future that may go through the same thing.

Blessings, for The Day has come and The Sun will rise. You are building memories for tomorrow.

Nope! she grabbed from the metric side! like 7,8,9 and 20,22 I think. She was like well Here is big and small this should fix it! I asked for an extension once and she gave me like a 1 1/2' long screw driver.

Slowly but surely she is learning, that was 2 years ago. My favorite part is she likes to clean them and put them in the correct slots. Saves me a lot of work! Gotta Love her!

ARG! You guys, my husband ok'ed the repairs last night!! He informed me this morning, and I am so upset he went ahead and decided that the mechanic would know best. He didn't learn from the Canadian experience. Grrr... I can't yell at him, because it does no good, but I sure feel like it.

So now what do I do? We need to stop by an auto parts store and pick up auto tools, since hubby forgot to pack mine. I fixed the slide-out pump in the RV just before we left, and he thought he was being efficient by storing the tools in the garage.

I have a bad feeling about this. We're 14 hours from home, apparently, but the kids cannot handle doing that all at once, so we will have to stop for the night tonight in NV, if we make it that far. What a mess, and a lot of money.

Remain calm. Love and respect your husband and what he decides to do. You are all in this together and together you as a family will get through this. All will be fine. Let the Dealer know that you want your old parts back. GPR, injector... everything that they replace. Put everything in writing and get a garrenty. I am not telling you to go out and buy a lot of parts 'just in case', but your should have a spare CPS in the glove box at all times. (10mm wrench) Also have several spare qts of oil just in case it is burning/sucking it off somewhere.

When 'The Tech' Changes out the injector... all may be fine ('we' as a group who love our trucks do not start at the most expensive part and work down to the cheapest) if it is fixed, so be it and all is well. If it did not fix the problem the Dealer should not charge you for the 'new' injector, but put your old one back in. (in any case you should get your old injector back and other parts). Keep an eye on what they do and what they charge you for.

If they get it running, test it over and over before you leave town (and the Dealer). Once you are on the road and the truck is running FINE, remember that this is a Diesel and you can keep the truck running as long as you want, if you are afraid that if you shut it off and it will not start again, do not shut it off. I hope that you have a extra set of keys (get some made if you don't) You can idle the truck in the same spot for hours and it will not hurt it.... stop for fuel....leave it running (have extra keys in your pocket, for when you need to go into a store and leave it locked and running).

Post back on your progress.

Make sure all is well with you and your husband, this is a team effert and as a team there are times to lead and times to follow. Go with your husbands lead, but be there to help when and where you can. He (as I would be) is under a lot of stress and pressure, don't make it worse.... the bottome line, it is only "A Truck" (I said that with a tear in my eye) and it can/will be fixed.

since yelling at him does no good I was going to suggest positive reinforcement of your verbal communication with him with a 3/4" ratchet handle, but seeing how he left the tools at home(probably anticipating this)you will have to substitute another item.I am pulling for you, seems you have the same relationship I have with certain MR.Murphy showing up when he is least wanted. There is a user here who's handle is Quick444 if you have a chance read his story,I have used it to get me through moments of great frustration and give me perspective,it may help you as well.I wish i could offer more in the way of help,I am about as far east from you as you can get(I am 1/2 a mile from the atlantic in nyc) but you will get through this safely I am sure.

Thanks, guys. I thought you had to turn off the truck to fuel up? I do have multiple keys.

I let my husband know I was not happy with his decision, but what is done, is done. How do I test the truck? Turn it off, and on? It worked fine for a hundred or so miles the last time we were stuck.

Well, hopefully that fixes the problem. I'd sure like to have Swamps or Casserly tear down the injector they remove for analysis - but likely Ford will want the core...

I finally heard back from a friend who lives nearby there in ID. He said 'good mechanic' in Shelley (about 40 miles from Rexburg?) Cam 208-339-5675 Sorry it took so long to get that..........

Meanwhile, I have friends all over the country - let us know what route you're taking home and maybe we've got someone along the way in case you do have more troubles.

When I flew home one time and drove the family 3000 miles back out to Seattle in the Excursion - I left all of my 'travel' tools in F350. I ended up buying my 7yr old a pretty nice 'combo' tool set (for his birthday ) and we took that on the trip. I can't really even drive to town without SOME tools! The set I bought was under $100 (Husky) and had 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 sockets/ratchets, wrenches, screwdrivers and even a hammer and tape measure - and fit under the seat in the X.

The mechanic told me there is a "core charge" on the injector of $180 or something like that. Is that true??

Ahhh but that's the beauty of the oil burners! We don't have to worry about static causing an explosion!

We'll be going through So. Idaho, then Nevada, through Elko, then Winnemucca, into California by way of Susanville and down into Redding.

I think that this is true. These injectors are 'fixable/repairable' and the 'core' is needed. If it is taken out, make sure you or your husband inspect it with care and let them/tech explain exactly what is the matter with the injector to create the problems that you are having.

If the new injector fixes the problem then you will not need your old one to take with you, but make sure you see the old one and know the issues with it. The Dealer/tech should know by now that you are paying attention to what is going on and that you want it done right.

To 'test' it? run it through its passes through the parking lot and town. Start it up and shut it off several time and be very happy about how it starts...and how it is running All before you pay the Bill. Pay by Credit Card in case you want to challenge the Bill for work doneat a later date. Get the Dealers phone number and all work done, including codes ect, in case you have an issue on the way home and have to stop at an other garage.
And yes you can keep the truck running for days and days, idle for hours at a time and not shut it off... even at the 'gas' pump. The 'BIG' Diesels never shut thier trucks off and we do not have to either. Check your oil level several times on the road. You can do this with the engine running if your are afraid to shut it off. but be very careful around the moving belts/fan blade, ect. stand on the passenger side and away from the front. It takes a lot of juice from the batterys to start these truck and wear and tear on the starter, I have just made it a habbit of leaving my truck running on most of my trips unless I 'must' shut it off.

Good luck
