Emergency help needed!
You go Powerstroke Mom!!! Give that dealer everything you have and show 'em whose boss! Boy if you were a few years younger (no offense *im only 21*)! My girlfriend is like what? A 5/8 socket? Hands me 8 and and says pick what 5 you want!
Pansen, we all feel for you and your family. It seems bad now, but this will get fixed and you will look back and say dozens of people that I don't know and they don't know me....cared.... and tried to help for 100s of miles away. You may not think so now, but you are in a better 'spot' than some 'members' have found themselves in. 'Way out' in the middle of Gods Creation and....alone (I know that you are a lady) and (as a man) 'sitting' in my truck (alone) I do this
and what does my wife do?
...So what do 'we' do now? You have scanned through a lot of threads...
The Glow Plug Regulator is a side show problem and can be changed out. (if it is bad, it may not be)
It looks as if almost no one thinks that the 'bad injector' would cause a no start or shut the truck down when it was running.... it is something else.
"Clay, from RiffRaff", may have some suggestions as I know he has helped many people out as Kwikkordead have.
I wish you well and when you (we) get this fixed, remember to stop back to Forum from time to time. For what you are going through now will help someone in the future that may go through the same thing.
Blessings, for The Day has come and The Sun will rise. You are building memories for tomorrow.

That is great. At least she's trying. Was a 5/8 one of the 8 she handed you?
Slowly but surely she is learning, that was 2 years ago. My favorite part is she likes to clean them and put them in the correct slots. Saves me a lot of work! Gotta Love her!
So now what do I do? We need to stop by an auto parts store and pick up auto tools, since hubby forgot to pack mine. I fixed the slide-out pump in the RV just before we left, and he thought he was being efficient by storing the tools in the garage.

I have a bad feeling about this. We're 14 hours from home, apparently, but the kids cannot handle doing that all at once, so we will have to stop for the night tonight in NV, if we make it that far. What a mess, and a lot of money.
When 'The Tech' Changes out the injector... all may be fine ('we' as a group who love our trucks do not start at the most expensive part and work down to the cheapest) if it is fixed, so be it and all is well. If it did not fix the problem the Dealer should not charge you for the 'new' injector, but put your old one back in. (in any case you should get your old injector back and other parts). Keep an eye on what they do and what they charge you for.
If they get it running, test it over and over before you leave town (and the Dealer). Once you are on the road and the truck is running FINE, remember that this is a Diesel and you can keep the truck running as long as you want, if you are afraid that if you shut it off and it will not start again, do not shut it off. I hope that you have a extra set of keys (get some made if you don't) You can idle the truck in the same spot for hours and it will not hurt it.... stop for fuel....leave it running (have extra keys in your pocket, for when you need to go into a store and leave it locked and running).
Post back on your progress.
Make sure all is well with you and your husband, this is a team effert and as a team there are times to lead and times to follow. Go with your husbands lead, but be there to help when and where you can. He (as I would be) is under a lot of stress and pressure, don't make it worse.... the bottome line, it is only "A Truck" (I said that with a tear in my eye) and it can/will be fixed.
I let my husband know I was not happy with his decision, but what is done, is done. How do I test the truck? Turn it off, and on? It worked fine for a hundred or so miles the last time we were stuck.

I finally heard back from a friend who lives nearby there in ID. He said 'good mechanic' in Shelley (about 40 miles from Rexburg?) Cam 208-339-5675 Sorry it took so long to get that..........

Meanwhile, I have friends all over the country - let us know what route you're taking home and maybe we've got someone along the way in case you do have more troubles.
When I flew home one time and drove the family 3000 miles back out to Seattle in the Excursion - I left all of my 'travel' tools in F350. I ended up buying my 7yr old a pretty nice 'combo' tool set (for his birthday
) and we took that on the trip. I can't really even drive to town without SOME tools!
The set I bought was under $100 (Husky) and had 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 sockets/ratchets, wrenches, screwdrivers and even a hammer and tape measure - and fit under the seat in the X.

Ahhh but that's the beauty of the oil burners!
We don't have to worry about static causing an explosion!
Well, you have a bunch of folks pulling and praying for you and your boys(including your "oldest", aka Hubby
) to make a safe and speedy return home! Please do keep us posted! From a fellow
The mechanic told me there is a "core charge" on the injector of $180 or something like that. Is that true??]
If the new injector fixes the problem then you will not need your old one to take with you, but make sure you see the old one and know the issues with it. The Dealer/tech should know by now that you are paying attention to what is going on and that you want it done right.
To 'test' it? run it through its passes through the parking lot and town. Start it up and shut it off several time and be very happy about how it starts...and how it is running All before you pay the Bill. Pay by Credit Card in case you want to challenge the Bill for work doneat a later date. Get the Dealers phone number and all work done, including codes ect, in case you have an issue on the way home and have to stop at an other garage.
And yes you can keep the truck running for days and days, idle for hours at a time and not shut it off... even at the 'gas' pump. The 'BIG' Diesels never shut thier trucks off and we do not have to either. Check your oil level several times on the road. You can do this with the engine running if your are afraid to shut it off. but be very careful around the moving belts/fan blade, ect. stand on the passenger side and away from the front. It takes a lot of juice from the batterys to start these truck and wear and tear on the starter, I have just made it a habbit of leaving my truck running on most of my trips unless I 'must' shut it off.
Good luck
