part 2.

she starts covering the bills at my place which killed me. i filled out apps left and right and worked temp jobs when they were available. got a few call backs, and got strung around by a few possible employers and eventually ended up with no prospect for a job. market went to hell, and the temp work went away. so now i was down to finding seasonal jobs as they still popped up her and there. worked when i could through the 9 months of her pregnancy but by the 8th month of it, it became apparent that we were up shyte creek without a paddle. the only place that needed people was where she works and the local junkyard. can't go back to the old job where she works because i threatened to kick the shyte out of the homoghey head of human resources in front of one of the company bosses in a bar one night, and the j/y couldn't have me driving any of their trucks without my physical license on me for insurance reasons. i could legally drive at the time, but my physical license was being withheld at the courthouse until i finished paying on my d.u.i. fines which were around $2k then, couldn't afford to pay it off and get the license back at the time. so with my tail between my legs like a scolded dog i decided to see if we could move in with the wife's mom and brother until we got back on our feet. horrible idea, but it was our only option.

part 3.

we move in with her family and have our daughter. wife goes back to work after her maternity leave and i continue to work here and there at seasonal and temp jobs, but the money is not rolling in and the wife's brother is kind of taking advantage of having "our" income to pay for stuff. i had no problems with the bills being split, but me and my mother in law were the only ones with licenses and i was the only one with vehicles. that somehow equaled i was the guy paying for all the gas, maintenance, insurance, and so forth and i also became a semi-professional taxi driver for everyone. we started to get serious about looking for a place and then my birth father pops in with an offer of a "free" house.

part 4.

free is never free. this house sounded like the answer to our situation. it was not. it turned out to be an old as hell beat down farm house rental that my dad owns, and the last tenants were dog hoarders. i tried my damndest to try and do some work to the place to get it livable, but it got real clear that it ain't going to happen on the non-existent budget we had at the time. i landed an actual full time job in a plastic sorting facility at this time. the 2nd weekend after starting the new job i was out there at the farm doing some yard work and i lit myself on fire starting a burn pit with gas like an idiot. ended up burning 30some percent of my body with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my arms, legs, hands, and whole head. ever drove a stick shift 25 miles into town with no palms in your hands???? i have, not fun lucked out and only had to sit in a burn hospital for a week. i heal pretty quick and i didn't have any problems with infections. i didn't lose the new job, but taking a month and a half off to heal up did not sit well with them.

part 5.

go back to work at the plastic place, but they start trying to get me to quit. it was a shady place ran by some weird chinese family. they catch on that no matter how much they shyte on me i'm not gonna quit because i needed the money bad, so they move me to a piece work pay scale which was good at first and i was making some decent cash, then they started getting short on material which when you get paid based on productivity means you are now losing money sitting around doing nothing for 8 hours a day. i finally got the point when they cut me out and put me on a call in to work before coming in setup. so now i'm a jobless bum again. we face facts and realize that we aren't going to be able to move until tax time because saving up cash is not happening where we're living. tax time rolls around and we cut ties and run. there weren't many places available in the town where we live now, so we ended up with a rather pricey place for a rental in the area, as it was this or nothing. we are semi comfortable on the wife's income and she has a little talk with me about being a stay at home dad. it makes sense as she has the full time job that she likes and doesn't want to quit, and it has those all so important benefits which are essential with kids.

Hell, i got called in today and I don't wanna go back tomorrow!

Know what I hate? crawling under the race truck today to swap 3rd members from the old gear setup to the new spool and gears only to find that my driver side ladder bar mount on the axle tube is bent all to hell and the lower portion of my bar is angled inward. Never noticed it from outside standing and looking at it, just when I crawled under it. Good thing I used my cheapy little Lincoln SP135 welder because the welds did not break, just the brackets bent. Gonna try to straighten them, if not gonna have to cut them off and weld on new ones.

part 6.

here's where stuff starts getting effed up. we had decided to have two kids and we were going to space them apart by 3 or so years so we wouldn't be dealing with 2 babies at once. we wanted the first one semi functional before having another one that needed lots of attention. well one night we have some friends over for drinks, we're having a good time and hit the sack for a little fun after the friends leave. i'm a married man in a monogamous relationship so i don't wear protection, i use the ages old technique of pulling out as i'm about finished up the wife springs a full body bear hug on me. i didn't get out all the way if you catch my drift. turns out the wife decided to get knocked up with baby no.2 ahead of schedule without doing the grown up thing and talking it over with me first. so now i'm in a really chitty spot thanks mainly due to the wife's crappy judgement. the daughter was just getting old enough for us to put her in daycare so i could get some work going so we could get some money saved up and try and do some growing up, like getting a house and getting rid of our debt and such. well now that's all out the window and the economy is still bringing the suck. i keep working temp shyte as much as i can to try and get caught up on money for when baby no.2 shows up. still filling out apps and not hearing back on anything

part 7.

around 7-8 months into the 2nd pregnancy i land what seems like a good job. small toy distribution company that is booming. they give us all the good speeches and make it sound like the place is going to be solid work and the skys the limit on overtime. worked it for a while and it kept us afloat while she was on maternity leave. the day before x-mas eve they start laying people off left and right. turns out it's just a 4 month a year seasonal boom and they were blowing sunshine up our ***'s about it going year round. i try to find more work to keep me from getting lazy again but i fall back into the house dad routine. still fill out apps and call the temp places, but there is nothing going on and when there is something it isn't close enough or doesn't pay enough to justify it. i'd actually lose money between gas and child care. got a new neighbor recently and he's trying to get me in with him at his job. pay and benefits are good, good enough that if i can land this job the wife is gonna work a little longer and once i'm settled into the job she's probably going to take a leave from work to stay home with the kids for a while. fair is fair. she deserves it. and as an added bonus, i'd be making beer and booze bottles which is at least a familiar product

a lot of the hassle that has made some little issues into big ones is that my wife works on an ever changing schedule. her normal hours are 1-9:30 at night, but she rarely works that more than a day or two a week. her hours are all over the place and change so many times a week it's impossible to find a job to work around her hours, but like i said, she's got the benefits and good pay. so unless i could find a part time gig with ultra flexible hours, or a full time job with first day benefits and a good starting wage we are in a bit of a pickle. really wish she wouldn't have pulled one over on me to get knocked up, but whats done is done and my son is awesome. god i hope something comes of this job with the neighbor :fingerscrossed.
