yeah on that side of the shop we have 2 10 ton cranes. actually just used them to lift 2 chevy suburbans up that we are putting rail road gear on.
if i remember right we're right about 14,000 SQ FT of shop space.
That is just about big enough to suit me. My old shop in Florida was 12,000 SF, but that was business. I want a hobby shop that size. Oh well, people in hell want ice water. I'll get my shop about the same time they get the ice water.
ok ok...i said i wouldn't complain about traffic after driving in Seattle this summer but...anchorage traffic sucks and is getting worse by the day it feels like anyhow. combine idiot drivers with bad weather and people in a rush you see why i have had 2 trucks totaled in the last year and been hit by way to many people.
luckily i get off work at 4:30 and only have about a 10 mile commute which takes about 15mins. but when i work overttime and leave between 5-630pm its bad.
if i can i avoid 8-9am and 12-1pm and 5-7pm as they are the most congested traffic hours. hell even 5 years ago it was no where near as bad as it is today if my memory serves me correctly.
*WARNING bad language*
this was around 10pm on a sat night. i hate when people can see there is a wreck or the like blocking there lane and try to cut you off at the last second because they did not want to wait in the correct lane. thus is why i was alittle pissy about those people jumping over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPwbM5lww60
That's what you get when you encourage tourism, tourists become transplant. A/K/A new Alaskans that move up there for that state paycheck from the oil revenue, cheap land prices and more space.
i dont think it has as much to do with tourism as it does the military.
also land in town is not cheap! well considering what it used to be anyhow. avg single fam home is like 350k now i think!?! we're running out of land so the prices just go up. hell even out in the wasilla/palmer area (about 50 miles away) prices are slowly creeping up and i would never ever want to live out there.
alot of it is military since we have the 2..well now one big joint military base in anchorage. you get alot of people that have never driven in ice/snow transplanted up.
I have known a lot of military retirees that served in Alaska that fell in love with the place and the lifestyle. I had a couple of friends that toured to and through Alaska on motorcycles back when the Alcan highway was still just graded dirt. They loved it and said it was the experience of a lifetime. Said there were what looked like puddles in the road in places and if you went in them they might swallow the bike and rider. The highway was only open for a few months a year and maintained by the US Army for the most part.
anchorage is pretty much a he// hole anymore, this year was the first year FORBES magazine named it the #1 most dangrous city to live in in the entire united states!

it did make the list of top 5 yes, but the whole thing was pretty skewed. we also made a list of best citys to live..#13 i think it was. you can bend the numbers and "facts" any way you want. big issue with the "dangerous" city thing was the fact alot of our sexual offences and few other crimes are felony's when in other places they are are lesser charges.
Your trucks pretty much always look clean regardless of the weather. I can't seem to keep up with mine at this time. Always something that needs fixing or what not around the house or kids or even my own class work. Keep up the great job. Saving up for my graduation gift an Excursion but not sure what year I seriously want. I want a diesel but not sure. I guess more homework for me . Where did you get your rear lights again?

the clean thing is just because its been below freezing. as soon as it hits 32* we start getting slush. which it sounds like with this big storm coming my trucks will get dirty
nothing new with the truck except shes about to roll 80k miles. changed the oil again and fixed a broken wiper arm. i swear this truck is like the energizer bunny!!! change the oil add gas and she keeps on tickin! best $2500 truck EVER!
