So i was flipping through my 4 Wheel & Off Road when i got to my favorite section that featurs readers' rides. i particularly like the part where they ask for the worst modification and it says no while the picture shows a truck that looks more like a clown car than an off-road warrior. anywho, here's the post: what's the stupidest mod you've ever done? i can honestly say that i don't have any since i haven't touched the anything on the truck.

 

can't really say I've done any "stupid mods" I don't have the money to waste on anything that isn't vital to operation. Here's a few of my least favorite mods that I see:
-lowered 4x4's- this is just plain stupid.
-gold spoked wheels- gag me
-bow legged vehicles- If you aint running , 19" wide tires or something useful like full width axles under a Jeep then your tires need to stay within 2" of the wheelwells on a truck and they shure don't need to stick out any on a car.
-gold and chrome trim on everything- tacky to say the least.
-"coffee can" exhaust tips- these serve no purpose but to demonstrate the lack of intelligence in the driver.

"Like a Rock"; on the sides of roads everywhere.

 

How'bout a 4" suspension lift on a 78 toyota carolla and 850x27 14s all around. Sorry no pics too embarrasing. It did fly good though once or twice. hard landings would taco the control arms though.

 

I sure didn't do this - just saw the ads! Can you believe the guys that dump sbc's into classic Fords and then buy the add-on kit to make it look like a FLATHEAD? How moronic! On the other hand if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.... hoo-boy

 

How about a rice burner exhaust that sound like a coffee can full of bees

 

I have to agree with you 78F250 on the little rice burners that can't produce more than 125hp and yet they have 3" exhausts on them. Here's another instance that will really get you fellow Ford lovers riled up! Just the other day I saw really abuse Brono! Get this the tires on it that were not much thicker than 5"s, the rims were not much bigger than 10" in diameter, the wheels stuck out about 8" from the side of the vehicle, gold trim all of the poor truck, painted some crappy metallic maroon, and he had 4 exhaust pipes coming out from the back of the truck on either side and they were gold plated! Talk about a genuine idiot!

This one really got my blood boiling. I was watching hot rod TV (A.K.A. Show Off Your Chevy TV) on TNN last week, and they were highlighting some super c&**&*y show. There was some guy who put one of those P.O.S. 350 C&*^y motors into a 1986 Mustang body. The motor had valve covers with a big ugly bowtie symbol on them!! He was drag racing this so- called "mustang" against Nova's , Chevelle's, and lowrider S-10's. Needless to say, I was a little pissed off. Couldn't that joker find one of those Camaro bodies to ruin with that out-dated powerplant??

Chevy Trucks- Like a Rock- It doesn't generally move unless dropped onto the scrap metal pile at the junkyard

Also, try being so sure a 305 crank in a 350 block will work, and then getting everything bolted together and then thinking that maybe it won't work all that well after all!

About the riceburners, last summer I got my a## handed to me by a little Honda 2dr at the Friday night drags. I race 95 TA fairly stock, a 14.00 @ 100mph. this little Honda lines up next to me, and I think this will be easy! I get the jump on him at the light and next thing I know here comes this awful sounding streak blowing by me! He runs a 12.5 @ 110mph. One of my friends in the stands was sitting by the riceburners buddies, and they were laughing that they always think that Honda is going to blow up, because it is so overboosted it's running on the ragged edge of destruction. I guess the guy goes thru several engines a season! Greg58

 

Not to mention that Honda is probably 500-700 lbs lighter than you...

 

Lowered 4x4's are the worst mods... what the hell you goona do with it ? climb a pebble ? Lowered trucks are cool just keep em 2 wheelers cuz droped 4bys are just plain stupid !!

I'd have to say the stupidist mod's i've seen done is putting them stupid tin can mufflers on those junky import cars.

 

I havn't tried this mod personally, but one of the guys at my high school used tennis ***** as coil spacers. Each spring on the front of his '88 F-150 had 3 tennis ***** stuffed between the coils. I don't know why he couldn't just spend $5.00 on a set of real spacers. I always wondered what would happen if he hit a speed bump too fast...I always made sure not to walk along beside him just in case he did...

I have read about guys in the 50's getting Dad's car on a Friday night and loosening the exhaust pipe and jacking up the front end by wedging 2x4 pieces into the front suspension and then crusing the strip all evening.

Long long ago had a neighbor who put margarine containers, the kind with the little flowers around the outside, over the center of his hubcaps. He was a bit touched in the head though and apparently, since they fit so well, thought it a nice addition to his car.

Guy in high school had a pinto and spray painted his chrome wheel covers the same color as the car. Really looked tacky.

 

Nearby, there is a 74-75 Cad Eldo that some one tried to make into a ranchero. Looks like the body was cut in half and welded back together. But when it was re-welded, they didn't make sure the halfs were aligned. So it ended up in a inverted V shape, with the middle very noticably higher than either end. But they did'nt care, painted it anyway. It is so ugly that it almost hurts to look at it.What an embarrassing end for a once nice Eldorado...
